This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Calvert - Thomas C. Thomas Clare Hugh Ewing and Isaac Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WQH.2ACEB/1006 Message Board Post: In a letter to her Uncle dated May 30 1921 Ida Calvert indicated that she and other members had found the grave of Thomas Calvert on a farm owned then by Richard Calvert's son Thomas "Tommy" Calvert above Roberts run in Greene Co. Thomas owned a grist mill on Dunkard Creek. This part of Greene Co was originally part of Monongalia Co. The Tombstone was broken in 3 pieces but was readable at the time. They went to Isaac Calverts old farm now owned by Richard's son John. They found the base of a tombstone but not the marker itself. They then went to Blacksville in Monongalia County and found Anne Ewing's grave. There is an old stone there documenting Fanny Bullet Calvert. Another with the name Joanna and Margaret Calvert who were daughters of Fanny and Isaac. This was from a larger stone that had been recut with the older lettering on it but only a few letters readable. Ida mentions that she thought this was the original tombstone of Isaac and Isaac may have been moved to this cemetery. According to Ida, Isac lived 120 years and was buried on the Brock Family Farm at Blacksville WV. The northern boundary of this town is in PA. Fanny Bullet(Frances) is also buried at Blacksville and lived to be 116 years old. I have other Calverts and other lines in this Cemetery. Further: Blacksville is on Dunkard Creek near where it runs into PA. These Calverts would be in the old Blacksville Cemetery which lies on a ridge above the Blacksville Cemetery, perhaps 400 or 500 yards in a direct line from the NW corner of teh new cemetery. Hugh Ewing Calvert and Sarah Miller are buried in PA. Their son, Hugh Ewing is the father of Thomas M. calvert the uncle to whom Ida wrote. Thomas Miller was b nov 10 1840 and died mar 2 1935 and lived to be 94 years old. he was a MD. Elizabeth John Calvert b 1 11 1842 lived to be 85. I don;t have her death date. Thomas Calvert shows in the 1850 Perry TWP census #172 farmer and valuation of 2000.00. He is 82 which puts his BD at 1768. in the house hold are margaret 81 and Susanna 4 all b PA. Ewing shows as 188 and 185 valuation farmer age 46 so the 1805 BD is probably correct. In this hh are sarah age 50, reason age 17 Mariah age 12, thomas age 9 Cathrine age 16 Susanna Rose age 53 and Penina Delana age 19(I think this is Delany. Btw, Ezekiel who showed in the 1810 whitely twp is now 70 #87 in the Greene TWSP wiith Rody age 70 whom I believe is Rhoda Debolt Daniel age 13, Margaret age 10 Elisha age 26 Griffin age 23 and Lidda 19. There is a John Calvert 48 in Wayne TWP age 47, Richard age 13, Lucinda age 17, JOhn age 11, William age 9 and Charlotte age 7. John's wife Margaret did not show up in the 1850 census but does at age 62 to John's 786 in hh 88-91 in wayne twp with malinda age 21, fanna(Fanny?) age 20 eliza Jane 18 and Rebecca M. age 16. Ida is Reason Calvert's Daughter. Note the varied connection to the daughter of DW Calvert who had a daughter named Ida who married a Grimm and is in the Calvert Family Cem. She said Lesa Conklin wrote her that Thomas and Anna Ewing were married at Mapletown but had no dates. I have discussed with others the connection of this Isaac to the Quaker line and even they address the fact that he was at Brandywine during the RevWar. Dale Harlan married a Calvert and talked about his grandfather talking about the quaker line but this was not Hampton Lee his grandfather but his Harlan Grand father. Dale's Parents are buried in the Harlan Cemetery on Harlan ridge Rd above a fork of Lynn Camp Fork of Fish Creek. I haven't sorted this all out but at least there are clues to ties in my family line that is tied to Dunkard Creek, Blacksville and Wadesville. I believe I should find Thomas Clare b in Mon Co VA later to become part of Greene Co PA. and note that Albert G was b mon co VA though I found no Birth record for Thomas C or Thomas Clare in that county's records. I only had time to check Greene Co but a note in this letter indicates that Thomas C was b lancaster co pa. Regards, David Bell
