    3. Debbie, this is beside the subject of genealogy. But, when I was a missionary in Cameroun, West Africa in the 1950-60s we had a very active Industrial Arts high school which was named Frank James after a benefactor. Could that have been yours? 2. Jim, I have been reading your E-mails and I was glad to find out someone knows something about the Calvert's in Andrew County, Missouri. My Great-Greatgrandpa was named James Calvert and he was born in Ohio (so I was told). Do you know if he may have been William's brother? He had 7 children by Lydia Rardin, then when she died he remarried Angeline Alumbaugh. Can you tell me more about Charles Maple? Thank you. Linda

    3. Linda, William Shepherd Calvert did not have a brother by the name of James. He did have one son by that name. A couple of his brothers and a couple of cousins had sons by the name of James. I do not know where all of these children migrated and which stayed in Ohio and West Virginia. I have sent your message on to Charles Maple. He was recently in a serious accident. It may take time for him to respond. It would help him if you gave the dates of your great-grandfather's birth and death. Please keep in contact with me, but remind me of the reason we first corresponded. My memory is a little hazy at times. 2. James Calvert
    3. Allison, Charles Maple is the expert on our line of Calverts who were in Missouri. Most of them settled in Andrew County first. The father was William Shepherd Calvert. He had sons by two wives. The first wife was Mary Gordon who he married either in Belmont County, OH or Morgan County, OH. Their sons were James Clark Calvert b. January 31, 1845 and died 1864 in the Battle of Vicksburg. Charles did not say whether or not he married and had issue. The second son was Joseph C. Calvert born c. 1840. Again, Charles did not say who he married, or if he had issue. William Shepherd Calvert married second Lucy Hopkins. Their son was Steward Hopkins Calvert b. November 23, 1844. He married and had sons William Comely Calvert, Benjamin W. Calvert, and Clarence Stewart Calvert. All of these sons were born in the late 1800s from 1850 on. I do not know if any of these moved to Pettis County. They located mostly in Andrew County and some could have moved on. I know Charles stated some of the later ones were around St. Joseph. 3. I would like to ask if you can define your Calvert ancestry. I have Calverts who end up in IN / OH / IL coming out of WV VA PA. My line is defined as known to Isaac in this manner: there are possible ancestors of Isaac but it would be speculation: I have an Isaac m Elizabeth Gart in CHester, PA. I have an Isaac b to Alexander Calvert and Mary Whealer in Somerset Co MD. My family heritage said the family came out of MD. The brother of Thomas who m Elizabeth Johnson was interviewed by a Newspaper in 1881 and he said his ancestors came from Bucks, Lancaster England. Unfortunately, this was all that he told the author of the article. This John was B1804 brother to Thomas below: Isaac b1745 - 49 M Frances Bullitt or Bullock. Thomas b 1769 M Anna Ewing and 2 J. Margaret LNU Thomas b 1803 M Elizabeth Johnson Albert Gallatin b1830 m Mary Cain John Ewing b 1856 m Martha Lemasters Arthur Clay b 1876 m Lena Ensinger and 2 Amanda Rose Dorthey Lee Calvert b 1922 m Edwin Bell Me..... Thanks for any help. There are variouos descendents of these Calverts who end up in the midwest. David Bell "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." 3. David, I got the information on James Calvert's wife from her death certificate. She was his wife in 1860 and 1870. I have not found them on any 1850 census yet. So, I figured they might have been on their way to Michigan. James died in 1861. I have a copy of his will. They were in Michigan in 1860. Three of James' sons were in the Civil War, namely John, James W. and Franklin M. John and James were in battle, Franklin deserted. I do not know anything about Sylvanus as he died 1862 at the age of 29. I suspect he may have fought but from another state. I have never found any record of it. I have copies of John and James and Franklin's Civil War papers which state they were born in Belmont County, Ohio.
