    1. [CALVERT-L] From the list admin: Roll Call & other information (PLEASE READ)
    2. Mike and Christi Brogan
    3. Hi folks, Well, I've been out of circulation for a bit now, and finally am at a point where I am beginning to catch up, so I thought I'd post to the list with a few items. For your information, there are currently 186 total subscribers. For such a large number, we sure are quiet! The first item I'd like to post is about a roll call. Now, I know many of you have strong opinions on the subject, but as this list is a relativly quiet one, I have decided that I would like to call for a Calvert roll call. This helps me, as a list admin, to know where most of our research lies. That way when someone contacts me about whether there are any researchers for "x-calvert in x place" I can answer truthfully rather than just saying "well, why don't you join and see" (which, of course, I do anyway :) ) Also, it helps those who haven't "made the connection" to make one if there are others on the same line. In order to be fair though to those who prefer not to read "roll call" messages, I ask that when you post you put "RC:" or "Roll Call:" in the subject line along with the states/countries of your Calverts. Those who aren't interested in the posts can delete them or can only read those with like states/countries. For example, my roll call entry will have the subject line of "RC: Calverts from ENG>US:MD>VA>WV>OH" that way, anyone who is interested in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia or West Virginia Calverts can take a look at my email by just seeing in the subject that there might be a connection. Second order of business is about the list rules. I will be sending (after this message) my standard "rule list" and hope everyone will read it. It is not a lot, but helps the list to run more smoothly. Any questions or problems with the list rules, please address me privately and not on the list. Thanks! Third, about the list website. I know, I know, it hasn't been updated in so long, but that is about to change... So, if anyone has additions to the links list, to the queries, or to the information contained on the page, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can get it changed. The site address is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cbrogan/calvert.html Oh, and btw, if you get a "runtime" error when accessing the site, just ignore it as that is one of the issues I'm currently working on. I am considering adding a java based chat room on a separate page for those interested. If this is something you (as a researcher) would like, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Meanwhile, thanks to all of you for making this such a great (abeit quiet) list! 3. Hello all! I want to thank each and every one of you for subscribing to this Rootsweb genealogy list. It is time now for a brief word from our sponsor :) List guidelines: All Rootsweb lists cannot accept HTML or Rich Text (RTF) formatted email or attachments, please make sure all email is in plain text format before sending to the list. Please feel free to visit the surname resource pages at Rootsweb as well as our personal mailing list pages by going to http://www.rootsweb.com and clicking on Surname Resources for the Rootsweb page and to the Mailing list jump page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cbrogan and selecting the list name for our personal mailing list pages. If you wish to respond to the entire list, you will need to replace the personal name in the to field with the list address, otherwise your response will only go to the person who sent the original message. If you have a problem with another list member, please do not post to the list but rather send email to the listowner and we will handle it off list. DO NOT forward Chain letters, off-topic posts, or virus alerts to the list. There are two sites listed below that deal with these hoaxes. Please check one of them and then email the listowner if you are still concerned. If there is cause for real alarm, he/she will address the list. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html http://www.cheyenne.com/virusinfo/ DO NOT forward other people's mail, email or copyrighted information to the list at any time without specific permission of the author (and clearance from the listowner) This prevents "information stealing" and hurt feelings on the list. DO NOT attempt to sell, advertise or distribute products to the list members without prior authorization from the listowner. Doing so is cause for immediate removal from the list. If you have a genealogy book you have written that you wish to let people know about, please alert the listowner for further instructions. If you would like to read through the archives of this or any other list, please visit: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl OK... that's enough of the tough stuff. If anyone has issues with the above rules, please feel free to contact me via email and we can discuss it. If there are large "uprisings" about some of the rules, we will vote on action on the list, but it must first be discussed with the listowner off-list. While we're on the subject of sponsors though, if any of you would like to join in the support of our great host, Rootsweb, please become a sponsor or member by visiting: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/members/ Again, thanks to all for making these lists what they are today! Now, back to GENEALOGY!!! Christi Calvert Brogan Proud Rootsweb Donor Visit our list pages at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cbrogan Visit our personal homepage at http://users.idworld.net/brogan
