    3. Folks, There are many hurt feelings generated on this subject and I am asking everyone to drop it please. As I said in my previous post it is not a reasonable request to insist that new query posters make reference to whether they are listed in the O'Gorman, or any other resource for that matter. Queries come in as they may, with or without reference. You may choose to refer them to someone who is willing, like Juanita, to do a lookup in the O'Gorman, or other sources, but they do not HAVE to note this in their query. Now, please, topic closed and let's get back to researching this line, in O'Gorman or what ever other sources we may have. Thank you! 3. I agree. O'Gorman may be a good guide, but I have found mistakes with some early VA Calvert listings. My 4th G Grandmother, Mary Calvert =m= William Walke, and her G Grandson, Rear Admiral Henry Walke wrote family history, and stories of PAC and Lower Norfork VA, with "first person" knowledge. Some info on Walke, Calvert, Moseley, Lee and others are listed in my site below, "Just a Veteran". ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ M F SMITH, 6 yr Army Vet, Ret, AL, APS Genealogy.......... 3. Hope this gets you started. I just bought an old issue of the Maryland Historical Society through EBAY. There is an article in it that traces the various heirs to the title, Lord Baltimore. James Madison Calvert appeared in it as follows: Benjamin Franklin Calvert Esq., of Willows, California, de jure fourteenth Lord Baltimore had no issue, his heir is his first cousin, James Madison Calvert, of Hunnewell, Mo., eldest son of the late Ziba Calvert (q.v.) and grandson of Cecilius, de jure ninth Lord Baltimore. He is therefore heir presumptive to the Barony, if restored. After William's death, Temperance married Warham Easley. If there is anyone who has a clue on William's ancestry, I would love to hear from you. 2. Why do we need to state whether ONE particular author or manuscript has our family member listed in the manual? I thought this was a CALVERT email group, but it seems like this is the O'Gorman email group. There are numerous other resources other than O'Gorman with wonderful CALVERT research listed. It is so refreshing to see other resources listed.

He is listed on page 230 and is #544 in the book. James Madison Calvert is from a completely different line of Calverts; -James Madison, James, Jesse, Obed, George, George, William, Leonard, George -1st Ld. Baltimore. The information you give about Nodding Calvert is not even close to what is shown on page 669. I offered sometime ago to work with all the folks researching "William Calvert who married Elizabeth Nodding". My suggestion was to assemble an accurate reproduction of the text from Descendants of Virginia Calverts. George Calvert [email protected]

Please if you have any information on this family would really appreciate it. Thanks Debi Debi: Sounds like the family of Cornelius Calvert of Norfolk, Va. There was a brother, William Calvert, b. June 10, 1734; m. Ann (Hunter) Barlow, widow. No Issue. This is a well known family. The genealogy given in Descendants of Virginia Calverts appears to be from reliable sources. There is no further write-up in later generations on William Calvert (or his sister Elizabeth Calvert, who married Alexander Love). Continuing family lines are presented for all the other brothers of William who had heirs. These other brothers remained in Virginia, except for the eldest son, Jonathan who drown at sea in 1744. If "proof" exists that William Calvert of Blount Co., Al. had brothers named Thomas, Joseph and Jonathan; and if "proof' exist that this Willaim was actually from Norfolk, Va.; then there would be a family connection. >From what I see, it looks like William of Blount Co. had a daughter named Mary and William of Norfolk had a mother named Mary, and somebody is attempting to connect the families. This of course would not establish a family relationship. George Calvert [email protected]

(I'm new to the list but have been a genealogist for several years. Laura, Descendants of Virginia Calverts has 719 pages of small print. It was "compiled" by Ella Foy O'Gorman in the 1930's and 1940's, but includes earlier research. Ella's cousin, Mary Emily Foy began researching the Calvert family before 1909, and Mrs. Verna Outwater of the Calvert Heirs Association assembled volumes of information from some type of mailing that was posted around 1912. We Calverts are very fortunate to have so many old letters, family stories, etc. preserved in this book. The negative side is that the book is limited to certain branches of the family. Also, many of the family lines stop back in the 1800's. Finally, lookups are often very difficult, it would be a lot better to have the book computerized. I thought it might be helpful to once again list the table of contents from Descendants of Virginia Calverts. VIRGINIA AND OTHER CALVERTS Book I Part I. Miscellaneous Records PartII. Hi fellow searchers, I have been reading the emails with interest hoping someone will be related to my John Calvert b. 1828, Slyvanus b. 1833, James W. b. 1835 and Franklin M. b. 1845, all in Belmont County. Their father was James and mother Eleanor McPhadon. James the father was born somewhere in Virginia ca 1806. John, my g. grandfather later migrated to Michigan by the mid 1850's and married Hannah Tisdale. His brothers also moved to Michigan and are buried there. Hope someday we connect. Norma H.

    3. Hi all, Lets keep this discussion on the Belmont Calverts going, I see some clues that may help unlock some mysteries that we have struggled with for years. The part about a Calvert marrying a Jane Mercer is really interesting as a marriage record can be found in PA. for Benjamin Taylor and Jane Mercer. No record has been found naming Benjamin Taylor and Jane Calvert, though we know through legal documents that Benjamin Taylor was listed with John Calverts heirs, on at least one document. John and Jacob Calvert owned most of section 31 or 32 in Mead Twp. and the parents of Benjamin Taylor owned land between the two. Jacob owned quite a bit of land, and is recorded as the founder of Jacobsburg, Belmont Co. Ohio in several different books concerning Belmont Co. history. The Mercer family of John Mercer, I believe lived in York Twp. which is just below Mead on the border of Monroe Co. Sue, do you have any background on how Hannah came to be known as Hanna Mercer Calvert. The Mercer name may be one of the pieces of this puzzle that has been missing. If not, at least we will have some fun trying to run something down. regards, Tim
