Mary Moscrop and George S Lamb were as follows: 41. Sarah Lamb . I am still trying to confirm details of the first Richard's birth about 1805. In the censuses, he put down Kirklinton as his birthplace, but he is not recorded in that parish register. I have found the birth of a Richard, son of Richard Moscrop of Burnside and his wife Isabella, late Little. This is a possibility, but I can't prove the relationship. Has anyone any ideas? I've looked through the Stapleton BTs and can't find the birth of the Richard of Burnside either. He eventually went to live in Churchtown Sebergham and is buried there. The Stapleton records (BTs and parish register) aren't in the IGI, but I have all the Moscrop references from the BTs 1730 - 1812. I will gladly send these to anyone interested. I would very much like to hear from anyone who is related to any of the above Moscrops, especially the ones that emigrated to Canada and the USA. Did you know there is a Moscrop Street in Vancouver (with a school named after the street)?? Thanks to the Moscrop mailing list, I recently met a distant Moscrop cousin from Australia!! I show Edith's parents as John BEALE and Susannah MERCER, but have no dates, places, or parents on either of them. I can provide more information on descendants of Mary Ann CALVERT and Sanford REEVES if you like.

He lived for a time in Page Co., VA, before moving to Harrison Co., VA. He moved back to Frederick Co., VA, where he died; his death is recorded in the Frederick Co. death register. He was a cooper (made barrels) so he moved around a lot looking for work. He never owned any land and he was very poor. James' father, Thomas Mills, was born in Prince William Co., VA, and moved to Fauquier Co., VA, by 1806. He died in Fauquier Co., VA about 1830. He never owned any land. Thomas' wife, Priscilla Leatherwood, descends from Stone, Leatherwood, and Calvert who came from Maryland to Virginia. At one time it was thought this Calvert line came from Lord Baltimore, but that theory is not generally accepted today. Thomas Mills' father James Mills probably was born in Prince William Co., and came to Fauquier Co. VA. There is very little info available about him. The name of his wife is unknown. James' father was probably Alexander Mills Sr, who was in Prince William Co., VA by 1783... probably earlier, but tax records don't exist prior to that date. Alexander Mills lived in the Occoquan area of Prince William Co., which is just across the Occoquan River from Fairfax Co., VA. He never owned any land, and was the defendant in a couple of law suits in Prince William Co and in Frederick Co., VA. At least some of these suits were about debts that he had not paid. He moved to Fauquier Co about 1806, and moved to Frederick Co., VA, about 1809. After he died (about 1816), several Mills children were bound out by the Overseers of the Poor. Some were probably his sons, and some were probably children of his son Alexander Mills Jr. I can see a few hints that his ancestors may have been in Fairfax Co., VA and/or Stafford Co., VA. I can see a few more hints that his ancestors may have come from Maryland... maybe St. Mary's Co or Charles Co. One researcher has found a neighborhood in London, England (on a very old map) from whence she thinks these Mills came -- lots of familiar names in the neighborhood. No one has pursued this avenue of research. Joan Hackett ==== MILLS Mailing List ==== MILLS-L is brought to you by the RootsWeb Members and Sponsors. Sandra "Valentine's son Henry Hollingsworth crossed the Atlantic on the Lion of Liverpool, arriving on 14th 8 MO 1683, as a servant to Robert Turner, the 14yh of his 17 servants in the list, to serve 2 years, and receive 50 acres...term was up on 14th 8th MO 1685 As far as Valentine goes, we find nobody actually saying that Valentine actually came on the Welcome, but most of them somehow manage to mention the ship as if to allow some prestige to rub off on the Hollingsworth. It is generally believed that he did come, and such of his family as came with him, though not, as we have seen, his son Henry, on the ship Antelope which arrived on 10 10th MO 1682 and brought at least one passenger from Ireland, namely, Ann Milcom of Armagh, Ireland, widow. In 1735 during the dispute over the boundary with Maryland, testimony was given and recorded in the "Breviate" by Samuel Hollingsworthy, son of Valentine, then aged 67, who said he had come to the Province of Pennsylvania in 1682. Likewise, JohnMusgrave, aged 73,gave testimony, that bring us to the conclusion that Hollingsworth and Musgrave arrived on a ship which preceded both the Welcome and the Antelope." "Valentine Hollingsworthy, son of Henry and Katheran ...Hollingsworth, of Ballyvickcrannel, Parish of Segoe, Co Armagh, Ireland, was born there in the 6th MO 1632. When he was about 32 he purchased Ballyvickcrannell . After he removed with his family to the Delaware River, it was sold, and it may be that when his son returned to Ireland in 1688 he went as much to sell his father;s property as to marry his sweetheart, Lydia Atkinson. there was in 1688 a suit between Valentine and Henry Jenney. Other later deeds prove that the Jenney or Janney family were in possession of Ballyvickcrannell. Ballyvickcrannell is a rural area a few miles east to the town of Portadown. early in the life of Valentine there was an outbreak of violence in this part of Ireland, and the English residents were badly treated by the native Irish. Many were murdered, many went back to England and never returned. Some time in the 1660s Valentine became a devoted member of Lurgan MM. He had his family records entered into the books of that Meeting. William stockdale's A Great Cry of Oppression contains 8 references to Hollingsworth's sufferings, deprivation of goods or stock as payment for tithes to the English church. He requested a certificate of removal to PA, ant this was granted at the meeting o 25 5th MO, 1682. Valentine married first on 7 June 1655, Ann Ree, dau of Nicholas and Ann Ree of Tanderagee, co Armagh, and by her had 4 children ; 2nd 12 4th MO, 1672, in Friends Meeting, Armagh, Ann Calvert, born Now 1650, at Kilwarling, co down, dau of Thomas and Jane calvert of drumgor, Armagh. Ann's grandfather, John calvert, came from Great Moorsholm alias Moresome near guisborough, inNorth Riding, Yorkshire, to Legacory, co Armagh, before 1617. He was the son of Yorkshire Roman Catholic gentry and as Sir George was a very influential man in England affairs as an M P and Secretary of State. He founded the colony of Maryland by sending in 1621/22 the first ships, some with North Yorkshire people, to settle there. There is a Calvert County in Maryland. 1. [CALVERT-L] Tennessee and North Carolina Calverts
    2. Dear Fellow Calvert Researchers: Chris Clark has established another line of the family, which descends from William Calvert of Chesterfield County, Va. Chris' line descends from John Butterworth Calvert, whereas hereto before the only lines traced were from John's older brothers Benjamin and William. Below is the text from pages 703 and 704 of "Descendants of Virginia Calverts" for WILLIAM CALVERT OF CHESTERFIELD CO., VA. Much of the research for this family line was by Miss Ruth V. Colvard, North Wilkesboro, N.C. Ruth Colvard was born Feb. 14, 1899; and is no doubt now deceased. The total text spans pages 703 to 719, it is the last chapter in the book. This line of the family was concentrated in the western part of Nrth Carolina and east Tennessee. I am publishing the first two pages since there is an interest in the Calverts in these areas. George Calvert [email protected] WILLIAM OF CHESTERFIELD CO., VA. FIRST GENERATION WILLIAM CALVERT OF CHESTERFIELD CO.. VA. 7901. William CALVERT (or COLVARD) b. . . . ; d. before Nov., 1745, Chesterfield Co., Va.; m. TEMPERANCE . . . . . .. She m. 2nd; . . . . Easeley. (It has been advisable to transfer this family from Book VII, its original number, to Book XVII. in order to indude the data in later generations. This necessitates making a third Index for this family alone.) It is possible that the above William Calvert was a son of John Calvet or Calvert to whom was granted 100 acres of land on the south side of James River in Henrico County, Va. 30th April, 1714, taken out of a survey of 258 acres surveyed for Mr. John Pleasants. (Land Grant Book 10, p. 125.) It is also possible but hardly probable that he was the William (No. 19), son of the Hon. William Calvert (No. 14) of St. Mary’s and Charles Counties, Maryland. William (No. 19), had a sister Elizabeth who married Charles Neal, Junior. William above (No. 7901) had a grandson named Neil or Neal Calvert or Colvard. Most likely this was but a co-incidence. >From Chesterfield County, Va. records: Nov. Court, 1745. Ordered that the Church Wardens of Dale Parish do bind out Benjamin Calvert and William Calvert, orphans of William Calvert. dec’d. according to Law. (Order Book Nov. 1737 -Oct., 1746. p. 341.) June Court. 1752. Ordered that Church Wardens do bind out according to law, Thomas Calvert orphan of William Calvert. Aug. Court, 1752. Thomas Calvert and William Calvert make choice of Temperance Easeley for their guardian. 1762. Dec. 25, John Butterworth Colvard and Judith Merryman married in Cumberland Co., Va. The wills of John Merryman Sr., and of John Merryman Jun., make no mention of Judith Colvard. She and her husband settled in Surry Co., N.C., where at least two records give his name in full. A John B. Colvard was recorded in the First Census for North Carolina, 1790. This John B. Colvard had Revolutionary service as a private in Blown’s Company, NC. John Butterworth Colvard seems to have gotten his name from the only John Butterworth found in Virginia at that time, who left a will in York County dated May 15, 1742; probated Nov. 19, 1744; in which he mentions his wife Demaris Gibbons; daughter Mary Gibbons wife of John Gibbons; granddaughter Elizabeth Gibbons, oldest daughter of Mary and John Gibbons; granddaughter Deinaris Gibbons; son-in-law Thomas Brewer. There is nothing to indicate any connection with the Calvart or Colvard families, unless it be the name Demaris, which name is found among the children of William Cal-vert (Colvard), Jr. The Gibbons early wills were also searched but no mention of the Calvert or Colvard families. William Calvert or Colvard was living in Goochiand County, Va., when his children were born and were recorded on Douglas Register. From this Register have been taken the names, birth and baptismal record of his children. The name of his wife was given as Mercy Holland. The wills of both Michael and Judith Holland, mention, among others, their daughter Mercy. He next appears on the roll of the first Census (1790) for Wilkes County, NC., as does also his son William. One or the other was Justice of the Peace from about 1781 to 1790. As the son would have been young for that position, the compiler leans to the conclusion that it was the father who was the Justice. Only the son’s name appears on the 1800 Census. ISSUE OF WILLIAM AND MERCY (HOLLAND) COLVARD: 7910 i. Elizabeth Colbard b. June 2. 1759; bap. June 16, 1759. 7911 ii. Neil Colbert b. 2. A connection with the Cherokees was mentioned in one of the messages. The Calverts (or Colberts) are also associated with the Chickasaw Nation. If you examine the records of the Continental Congress and later Congresses, you will find references to names such as Colonel Levi Calvert, General George Calvert, etc. These were all Calverts (Colberts) descended from a James Colbert. James Colbert was a native of one of the Carolinas, probably S. C. & came into the Chickasaw Nation prior to 1750, was adopted into an Indian family, sometime afterwards became a trader & made property, took a wife; & had several children - six sons and two daughters - all dead save one of the girls - had three wives - the daughter, Wm, by his first - by his second, George, Levi, & Joseph - all had Chickasaw mothers & James & Susan had a half breed mother. If you are interested and want to learn more about the role these Colberts (Calverts) had in American history, please visit the following site: http://www.flash.net/~kma/mcgee.htm George Calvert [email protected]

    3. This is just a sample of information starting with George Calvert, giving references. Someone may find the information interesting. Vicki K. Calvert Spencer Descendants of George Calvert b. c. 1693 Stafford Co., Va. Generation No. 1 1. GEORGE7 CALVERT (GEORGE6, WILLIAM5, LEONARD4, GEORGE3, LEONARD2, JOHN1) was born Abt. 1693 in Stafford Co.,Va., and died 1772 in Prince William Co., Va.. He married (1) CONSTANT CORNWALL. He married (2) ESTHER KIRKLAND STONE 1741, daughter of RICHARD KIRKLAND. Notes for GEORGE CALVERT: George was born abot 1694/1700 in Stafford Co.,Va. Died in 1771 in Prince William Co.,Va. The boundary of Stafford Co. changed to allow for the creation of Pr.Wm.Co. This places George and his family in Prince Wm.Co. George and his brother John had substantial land holdings in the area of Powell's Creek. Apparently, he and his brother John were farmers. The maiden name of George's first wife is not known. Her Christian name was Constance. They were married about 1718. Following the death of Constance, George married Ester Stone, who was the widow of Francis Stone. George Colverd, who with "Constance my wife for and in Consideration of Love Good Will & Affection we have and hold for our Loving friend and Brother John Colverd of aforesaid County"......continues with George and Constance giving his brother John Calvert 100 acres of land, dated 16 June 1731. Notes for CONSTANT CORNWALL: *Source* Virginia Magazine of History and Biography 1949 Vol. 57 A Missing Will Book of Stafford County and its Contents. by John Bailey Calvert Nicklen ° Will Book "K" covered the period from 1721 to 1730 and is now among the missing record books of this county. Anne Green married Edward Barton and they had four daughters: Constant probably married George Calvert, Sr., whose wife in 1731 was named Constanct. So who was George Calvert Sr. married to. Constanct Green? Notes for ESTHER KIRKLAND STONE: Ester was the widow of Fancis Stone and perhaps the daughter of Richard Kirkland. Richard Kirkland died in Fairfax Co.,Va., leaving a will dated Nov. 17, 1742; proved May 19, 1743, in which he mentions his wife Mary, his sons Robert and John Kirkland, and "All my sons and daughters." His wife Mary and George "Callburd" or "Calvert" as it was elsewhere spelled, were Executors. In Prince William County, May 26. 1740, Bond for Esther Stone: "Edward Barry and William Kirkland was given for Esther Stone., administratrix of the estate of Francis Stone. April 27, 1741, Esther Calvert returned additional Inventory of the estate of Francis Stone. Oct. 25, 1742 The accounting of the estate of Francis Stone, deceased, was presented by Esther Colvert and allowed and admitted to record. Colonial Virginians and Their Maryland Relatives Author: Norma Tucker Clearfield Company, Inc. by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore, Maryland 1994), pg. 177, Elizabeth Stone married William Calvert, son of Leonard Calvert of Maryland, grandson of George Calvert, first Baron of Baltimore. (Crowe). Call # 0-8063-4507-1 George Calvert; The Early Years Author: James W. Foster The Museum and Library of Maryland History Marylnad Historical Society 1983. Call # ISBN 0-938420-24-0 pg. 24 " I love Richmondshire with all my heart and it warms me when you talk of it, as cold a country as it is." wrote George Calvert, Lord Baltimore, from London to a fellow Yorkshireman, Sir Thomas Wentworth. pg. 77 Shortly before the 4th child was born, Sam Calvert wrote that Mrs. Calvert was ill. "I pray God, " he wrote, "send him [George Calvert] health and comfort if his wife dail (which we all fear) now upon her time of delivery. She hath so long languished upon a lingering sickness. I protest unto you there are not many such friends living, nor many such women, such is the love she hath gained (besides her own worth) amongst her husband's kindred... I shall but too soon miss her." Mrs. Calvert, however, outlived the author of this gloomy prediction. She was to bear seven other children, and die in 1622 at the birth of the 11th. pg. 91. George and Anne's fifth child, Leonard, must have been born in 1611, for he is described in his father's will, 1632, as having just come of age, but no report of his birth or baptism can be found. Since the register of St. Martin's includes the baptisms of his brothers and sisters both before and after this date, the omission is curious. Possibly it was a case of inadvertence on the part of the vicar or the parish clear, whose memory may have failed him. Happy Hunting, Your Lone Star Cousin, Vicki Kay CALVERT Spencer

    3. Hi Karen, Would you please see if the Maryland Historical Society publication mentions a Robert CALVERT? The only thing I know about him is that he had a dau Rebecca CALVERT, b. abt. 1793 in TN, m. Benjamin HUBBERT 1809 Sevier Co. TN. Rebecca died 1872 Saline Co. AR. There is a Robert CALVERT listed as one of the first judges in Sevier Co. TN in 1796. According to a letter written by a relative of mine in the 1970's, Rebecca "was a CALVERT, descendant of Lord CALVERT of Baltimore, originally of Ireland." That may or may not be the case, but I would like to connect him to his rightful CALVERTs, whoever they are. Thanks for your help, Linda Wood Parrish

I'm sure you are correct in thinking I'm "obsessed" with this reference when it comes to my Calvert line. Wanted to be sure everyone interested has the fun and thrilling experience I had back in 1989 seeing my great grandparents "in print" after some nice person pointed "the book" out to me. Instead of worrying about the mistakes think of all the facts she did have that was right. I think the book is great and thank her every time I use the book.
