    3. Thanks for your CALVERT Family information. Is it possible that that you have clues for earlier Calvert information? My husband's lineage is documented to Isaac CHAPLINE (c1586-1628) who married Mary CALVERT (1586-1627). They were married about 1606. They were in Calvert Co MD. 3. Good morning cousins. I ran across this information sent to me by Steve Calvert some time ago. One of those, put it where I could find it things. LOL Steve lives in Washington state and I had the privilege of meeting him a couple of years ago. This is the same year I met George and his wife, 1997. This may be of some use to some to other Calvert cousins. I am sending it exactly as written by Steve. The Calvert Family Bible owned origionally by Dudley and Samantha Johnson Calvert Garrett Calvert & Diana Glass children this way (word for word): Dudley Calvert married Samantha Johnson (Reuben)> Richard The Dock married Liggie Calvert Thomas died in infancy William married Susan Bain Elisabeth married Samuel Hahn (Permelia on census) Amelia married Dr. Jack Lankford Ann Calvert married Jim Leathers Ellen Calvert married Mark Thomas Caroline Calvert married John Thomas Mary Calvert married Nathaniel Thomas According to the Calvert bible, Diana Glass Calvert died in 1856, no date given. According to "Descendants of The Virginia Calverts" pg. 187, child #10 Thomas Kirkland Calvert was the last born, 1856. Could it have been that Diana died in childbirth? Her stone is next to Garretts in the Chaplin Fork Christian Churchyard, but the stone is broken. I have since discovered that the birth order of Garrett's children are correct but the first two children were born abt a year later than it says. src This is the one I am descended from. src ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ page 2 Calvert family ledgend has it that a Richard Calvert was called "snip nose dick" because Indians from the area kidnapped him, and as was their custom in males, snipped off the front part of his nose. He later escaped and was tagged with this nickname the rest of his life. As to which Richard this was, or even if the story is true, is anybody's guess. I do have a theory however: Thomas died in 1808 abt 48 years of age, quite young even for back then. Older sons Bennett and Reuben were both over 21 and probably not living with Thomas Calvert at the time. It is possible that Thomas Calvert was killed by indians while hunting and his son was kidnapped? Richard was abt 13 years old in 1808 not considered a man as yet. Men they would have killed -- but a boy, they would have taken to their camp. Who knows? The reason I've included this here, is because this Richard came to be know as "Specie Dick" already nicknamed, and with a bad disposition, this very likely could be one and the same. src http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/p/e/Vicki-K-Spencer/GENE1-0001.html http://www.parsonstech.com/genealogy/trees/vspencer/keith.htm http://www.parsonstech.com/genealogy/trees/vspencer/byers.htm

    2. I think Hiram was a Roman Catholic - only because his descendants were ardent roman Catholics (his Grand daughter Vera and Great Grand daughter Eileen). I met Great Aunt Vera (Hiram's Grand daughter) in Los Angeles in 1987. She was then around 93. She was afraid of tape recorders so what I have is from notes or memory. I think she said that when she went over to USA via Ellis Island, she went to stay with relatives who were already well established in USA, and that she had been passed around to relatives in Canada, Ohio and in Pittsburgh. I suspect that Hiram was buried around Pittsburgh. I am English and not too hot on US geography. Regards, Jim

    3. Jim, My cousin Charlene Pinkowski Calvert and I are somewhat active on the internet and represent a branch of the Calverts whose immigrant ancestor John and several children came into New York in 1792 or 93, some of whom went on to northwestern PA in the early 1800s, We know that they came from County Armagh, Northern Ireland and were of the rather strict Scotch Covenanter sect of he Scotch Presbyterian denomination. The location of your man's burial in PA and his religious preference is important. We think we know of a few who came to northwestern PA, after the above mentioned so probably related in some way. If your man Hiram was buried in eastern PA and a Quaker or central PA we probably cannot help you, though all Northern Irish Protestant Calverts were more closely related than the English Catholics who began arriving in Maryland about 145 years earlier than the above mentioned . 3. FYI Some time ago a mention was of a lawsuit made by Calvert heirs. While going through some old papers I ran across an old news clipping, (Hopkins Co., Ky. Newspaper, that I thought might be of interest. Sorry, there was no date. (Headline) Heirs to High Estate in Hopkins About 400 living in Hopkins and Caldwell Counties (Ky) are in line for slice of $400,000,000 Baltimore-Calvert Estate. Mrs Bourgeoise, Lawyer of St. Louis, confers with heirs at Princeton (Ky)last week. Sanguine of Success Mrs A. Calvert Bourgeoise, who is a practicing attorney of St. Louis, was in the city yesterday by previous appointment to meet the heirs from Caldwell and Hopkins Counties who are interested in the Baltimore Calvert estate. A large number were present from the two counties and a conference was held in the Mayes storeroom. Mrs Bourgeoise addressed the gathering stating the plans adopted in the efforts that are being made to regain possession of the vast estate for the heirs, which is valued at about $400,000,000. Mrs Bourgeoise is very sanguine of ultimate success and says the best legal talent available is retained in the case. It is said that there are about 400 heirs in Caldwell and Hopkins Counties, some of our best known families being included in the number……end article… Note: Jewel Maude Calvert b. Oct 8, 1879 in St. Louis Mo….d. Mar. 18, 1940 Los Angeles, Ca. Dau. Of William Preston Calvert and Zella Jones, she married Adolph Bourgeoise June 19, 1908 in St. Louis, Mo. ie: Mrs A. 3. Re: Leonard & Anne Brent Leonard Calvert returned to England in 1641/2 to visit his brother, the Baron .After a long visit during which time his marriage was solemnized, he returned to Maryland abt. 1643/4. Giles Brent , his brother -in-law governed in his absence and continued to do so until his death four years later. While in England (1642) he had married Anne Brent . She was a daughter of Richard and Elizabeth "Reed" Brent of Larke Stoke and Admington in Gloucestershire and a granddaughter of Giles and Katherine "Greville" Reed of Tusburie and Witten,a sister of Mary, Giles, Fulke and Mistress Margaret Brent who came to Maryland in 1638. Thru Katherine of Greville the lineage runs back to John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester, sons of King Edward III, of England . On his death-bed Gov. Leonard Calvert appointed Margaret Brent , his sister-in-law ,executrix and attorney for his estate. He was Lord of St. Gabriels, St. Michaels and Trinity Manors (" Colonial Families of the United States", volume VI, page 289; Prov.Ct. Archives. 1683, page 366; "Chronicles of Colonial Maryland", page 53)

    3. 2/8/00 Re Anne Brent There has been a lot of argument about Anne. Nicklin in MD GENEALOGIES reports that Leonard returned to Eng. and his marriage was solemnized there. Prob. a lot of records were destroyed during the Eng. Civil War, Cromwel et al. Various American Genealogy books inc. THE COMENDIUM names Anne Brent m. Leonard. LIVING DESCENDANTS OF BLOOD ROYAL (in America) by Count d'Angerville, vol. 4, traces one line of Anne Brent from Elizabeth Plantagenet m. Humphry de Bohun. Dau. of John of Gaunt m. Neville. John s/o Edward III. And so on down to Anne who m. Leonard Calvert & stating that she was a sister of Margaret Brent. Margaret come from VA to make certain that Wm. s/o Leonard & Anne got his rights in MD. I have more sources but at the moment can't find them Barbara Calvert
