I found considerable info on the family back to the father of Albert Gallatin but I now believe hardesty's and other ref were wrong. Thos c who fought in the w of 1812 and at Tippecanoe is not the father of Albert G. The intervening is thos. clair who married elizabeth b circa 1800-1809. This would fit being the offspring of a thomas c. born 1784, son of a thomas b 1755. Trying to tie this together and looking for records. have sent marc doviak notes and waiting for a reply. I and two others researching this have stumbled on to a thomas in between the 1784 thomas and the father of Albert Gallatin. I am trying to tie thomas, born circa 1800 still unknown to Thomas born 1784, to Thomas b 1755 to Thomas b1715 with a possible intervening generation. This 1715 Thomas was brother to george or a son of John in other words. Our family records then go back to the George and Doyne marriage and offspring. If you wish to write, I will show you what I have. I now believe in my line between Thomas b 1784(W 1812 vet) and Albert Gallatin Calvert B 1830 is a different thomas that is Thomas Clair Calvert. FamilyTree DNA also does testing. I have looked into the different companies offering testing and have a personal preference for FamilyTree DNA. Companies offering the DNA testing service include: Family Tree DNA (Houston, TX) http://www.familytreedna.com/ Relative Genetics (Salt Lake City, UT) and Ancestry.com http://www.relativegenetics.com/ http://www.ancestry.com/genetics/ Oxford Ancestors (England) http://www.oxfordancestors.com/ Ancestry.com was not doing the actual testing, they had an agreement with Relative Genetics. It would be easier for testing to be done by one company, but not absolutely necessary. There will be a slight variation in the actual markers tested among the different companies. For a group study, the company is given the known genealogies of the participants. The company writes a report interpreting the DNA results with the known genealogies. The numbers of participants will affect this results. Participants representing the different lineages makes the results more meaningful.
