    3. Hello, List, Though my FRANCIS connection started out in England, they ended up in California. I hope this rings a bell with someone! He married Harriet Ellen Archard Abt. 1891 in Lower Tranmere, St. Luke, Wirral, Cheshire, UK, daughter of William Archard and Emma Matthews. Notes for Harriet Ellen Archard: Harriet Ellen Charlesworth arrived in New York aboard the Campania on July 23, 1910. The note on the ship's manifest was that she had sailed to the US before (1909). Her first arrival was well before that, probably 1903. Her two boys, Osborne and (William) Percy Francis, sailed to America aboard the Etruria and arrived October 7, 1905. Her first husband was William Norris Archer. Her second husband was Samuel James Charlesworth. In 1905 Harriet and Samuel James' family resided at 510 W. 124th Street, New York, New York. Samuel James Charlesworth married for the second time on December 15, 1903.. He married Harriet Ellen Francis nee Archard. He listed his age as 42, and his occupation as janitor. Harriet listed her age as 38. (Note: when SJ arrived in 1910 he listed his age as 45! In 1903 SJ was probably 45-46 years old.) They were married in the rectory of St. Mary's Church by H. R. Hulse, the Rector. The rector resided at 101 Lawrence St., NY, NY. Witnesses to the marriage were Chales E and Mary Ann Archer. Harriet had two sons from her first marriage, Osborne and (William) Percy Francis. Her parents were William Archard and Emma Matthews. In 1910 Samuel, and Harriet, 45, Osborne, 17, and Percy, 16, were residing in an apartment house at 417 W. 118th Street, New York, New York. Samuel was the superintendent of the apartment house. Harriet's two sons were living with them as was a Charles Stroman, who was a 62 year old German who was the janitor in the building. >From Harriet's death certificate: Transcription #177, died 1/14/1947 at 4pm. Age 81 years 4 mos 4 days. Cause of death: cerebral hemorrhage - 10 days; hypertension 1 year; arteriosclerosis - 1 year. Father James Archer, Birkenhead, England. Deathplace: Del Rio Gardens Sanitarium, Bell Gardens, Residence: 5013 5th Ave., Los Angeles. Lived in community 22years and in USA 44 years. Widowed and spouse of Samuel J Charlesworth. She was a housewife. Informant: William P Francis, same address. Cremation was on Jan 16, 1947 at Westwood Memorial Park Crematory; Funeral director Armstrong Family, 1201 S Hope St. , Los Angeles, CA. Children of William Francis and Harriet Archard are: i. Osborne2 Francis, b. Abt. 1892. Notes for Osborne Francis: Osborne sailed to America aboard the Erurtria, a Cunard ship. He arrived on October 7, 1905. The address given as their destination was 510 W. 124th Street, New York, New York. In 1910, Osborne, 17, was an office boy in a printer's office. ii. William Percy Francis, b. March 13, 1894, England; d. July 28, 1965, Los Angeles, CA; m. Dorothy. Notes for William Percy Francis: Percy sailed to America aboard the Erurtria, a Cunard ship. He arrived on October 7, 1905. The address given as their destination was 510 W. 124th Street, New York, New York. In 1910, Percy, 16 at the time of the census, was a soda dispenser in a drug store. William Percy Francis died July 28, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA, at age 71. He resided at 4451 W. 60th St., LA. He was buried on August 2, 1865, in Inglewood Park. The cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage, chr. myocarditis, and emphysema. He had lived in the community and the state for 46 years at the time of his death. His wife was Dorothy S. Francis, a housewife. William P Francis was an equipment supervisor for 37 years in the LA County Schools. He was born in England on March 13, 1894, in Birkenhead, England. His father was (William) Norris Francis and his mother was Harriett Ellen Archer Francis Charlesworth.
