Bob, volunteers from the Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS) have extracted information from burial permits covering the years 1870 through 1892 that are on file at the Los Angeles County Vital Records Department in Norwalk. These permits were signed by Catholic priests, ministers and pastors, doctors, medical attendants, health officers or justices of the peace of L.A. County, who took the information about the deceased or were in attendance when the person died. The volunteers caution that the permits they have listed may not be all the permits prepared during this period of time, i.e., some were hard to read because of faded ink or poor handwriting. The full list is in alphabetical order, has not been published elsewhere, and is available at the SCGS Library: 417 Irving Drive, Burbank, CA 91504-2408 (818) 843-7247 FAX (818) 843-7262 Email: scgs@scgsgenealogy.com Web site: www.scgsgenealogy.com Library hours: Closed Mondays; Tuesday: 10 AM - 9 PM; Wednesday - Friday 10 AM - 4 PM First & Second Sundays and Third & Fourth Saturdays: 10 AM - 4 PM I hope this information will be helpful to you.
