    2. CAn anyone tell me what the number in parenthesis after the county of death on the online CA death index means? For example: My great uncle's death is listed as County: Los Angeles (19). I would like to pinpoint wher ein LA County so I might find an obituary for him. If anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Kris Mays in Southern Oregon

    3. The number in parenthesis whether it is a 19 or 70 is for Los Angeles County. At one time I was told the 19 was for city and the 70 for the rest of the county. Over the last two years of transcribing death certificates for the mailing list, I have noticed that this does not hold true. Therefore only a death certificate itself can tell us where the person died (city) and where the person lived. Hope this helps. 3. Every county is numbered...LA County happens to be #19. You will need a complete death cerificate to know the actual city, but most likely there is no obit to be found.
