Thought I would pass this on - it was in today's Ancestry Daily News. I agree all our many wonderful volunteers deserve a great big THANK YOU! FAST FACT: APRIL IS VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH =================================================================== I want to post a message to say how excited I am to officially declare April as Volunteer Appreciation Month on RootsWeb.com. RootsWeb.com began years ago as a grassroots effort that quickly became the largest volunteer genealogy website in the world. Today it is second only to Ancestry.com in the genealogy category for the number of unique visitors it receives each month. Without the tens of thousands of volunteers who maintain and administer the message boards, mailing lists, personal Web pages and who contribute data to RootsWeb, this website would not be where it is today. In addition, other wonderful volunteer organizations have also contributed substantially to our community. I want to recognize those volunteer efforts by mentioning the USGenWeb Project, the WorldGenWeb Project, the AOL Genealogy Forum, the LDS Church and their thousands of Family History Centers, Books We Own, GENTECH, FreeBMD (England and Wales), the Immigrant Ships Transcriber Guild, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Genealogical Society, Obituary Daily Times, Cemetery Photos, FreeReg (UK), Cyndi's List, and countless others. The mission of RootsWeb.com will be to continually recognize and empower volunteer organizations worldwide that disseminate genealogy knowledge and foster worldwide collaboration between family historians. Please join me in saying thank you! Express your appreciation by sending an e-mail to your message board or mailing list admin this month. (Click the "Links and Announcements" link on message boards to find your admin's e-mail address, or send a message to XXX- admin@rootsweb.com on mailing lists, where the name of the list replaces the XXX). Post a message here on this special message board. Visit your local Family History Center. You might even consider volunteering yourself as a way of giving something back to the community. Warm regards, Laryn Brown Director, RootsWeb.com
