    3. I have always been curious what genealogical aspect deed and property records play. What information would you be looking for? I have only ventured twice up to the second floor in Norwalk to look at Real Estate Records. Second floor has records after 1958 (I believe) and the 1st floor (across from the vital records) before that. I went in there once, but the gentleman behind the counter did not seem to want to be helpful that day, so I am putting it off for more time. The room is full of books and microfilm. Deborah, Tracing property records can be helpful for several reasons. First of all, a lot of people on these lists don't know ANYTHING about their relatives. We are very transient here in America, and aren't very good at passing information to our grandchildren, etc. Well, sometimes we do but oftentimes the info that becomes part of a person's family history is wrong! Let's say I know my grandfather lived at 4500 York Blvd, L.A. 42 in 1950. How do I know that? Well, you transcribed the DCT. I go look at the house and it's still there. I get copies of the property records and find out that it was owned from 1938-1956 by Frank and Dolores Walker. Hummm...who are they, I ask? I then find out that they were my grandfather's brother and sister-in-law. Now I have more names to plug into my family tree. I've also tried to look up property records at Norwalk and they were no help at all. You need a parcel number or some confusing thing like that.
