Chris, That librarian was right. Unless someone dies a violent death, or they were prominent in some way, there would be no obit. Might there still be a death notice (I'm not completely sure how that's different from an obit)? She died alone in her apartment (pneumonia and alcoholism) and was found some time later, is that enough to warrant a mention in the paper? (or is that a far-too-common way to go)? Thanks!
