Family history suggests that my grandmother was part Indian. She was born in Los Angeles, CA. I've tried to find out which tribes where in the area of Los Angeles in the 1890s but have not had any success. Perhaps one of you kind souls out there might know where to lead me? Thank you so much in advance, Diane
I did a quick search at the Los Angeles library and this is what it came up with: Record # 1 of 156 Subjects 1. Yang Na -- a place name and not a tribal name. Indians indigenous to the Los Angeles basin area were mostly Gabrielino Indians of the Shoshonean linguistic stock. Yang Na was a village name. Please note that there are some records in this file which mislead the reader to conclude that the tribal name was Yang-Na. http://www.lapl.org/elec_neigh/index.html Search of the web for Gabrielino Indians: http://www.tongva.com/ Deborah ----- Original Message ----- From: "obusy1" <obusy1@email.msn.com> To: <CALOSANG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2002 9:04 AM Subject: [CALosAngeles] Los Angeles Indian Tribes > > Family history suggests that my grandmother was part Indian.
