Thanks for that Mr/Mrs Cohen. When I read that inquiry, I thought to myself...Does my Google work better than their's? : ) Folks, 99% of the stuff you need is on line if you just look. To: calosang@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 2:46 PM I believe it is contrary to rootsweb rules to put information about living people up on the mailing lists out of privacy concerns. But you can easily perform a free search of http://veromi.net and phone book sites such as http://411.com to find him. The phone listing for him at 411.com is not available, but if you just put Simi Valley, California as the location and the surname GHERSON, without a first name, the first hit is likely to lead you to your family. You are right, Joe, but a lot of people do not know how to get google to give them what they are looking for. People need to be taught how by giving them the steps we use (including the URLs of the sites we used) when we answer their queries. Googling for information is a skill that needs development, and if someone has a hard time surfing pages of bad hits, then it can be overwhelming.
Your friendly and open attitude is so welcome. Heck, if I could, I would find those people, go knock on their door, and have them call you while I stood there! : ) So nice to have people ask for things in a nice way, in stark contrast to inquiries like this: NEED DEATH CERTIFICATE TRANSCRIPTION OF DOE, JOHN, DATE OF DEATH SOMETIME IN 20TH CENTURY. ADVISE HOW LONG I HAVE TO WAIT! NEED ASAP. JIM DOE Next day: HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY INFO?? You get the point! Amen...a lot of the older generation are getting involved with genealogy & don't have computer expertise. I even find that many younger people do not know how to use search engines to get the needed information. Given enough time and experimentation with search engines most folks will learn on their own the best methods to obtain what they need. In the meantime, we should be here to help those along the path. I'm thankful for all of those kind folks that have given me a step up. -----Original Message----- From: calosang-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:calosang-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of the cohens Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2012 11:47 AM To: calosang@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Robert Edwin GHERSON, LA Telephone Directory Lookup,Please!
