Hannah Maye Robertson was born on July 21, 1895 in Kansas. By 1900, the family had relocated to San Bernardino, CA John Laurencelle (aka John Russell) was born on Sept 1, 1887 in Montreal, Canada. In the late 1880's, his family had emigrated to the US to Ohio. By the mid-teens, he was living in Los Angeles county, most likely Long Beach. On March 27, 1916, he became a naturalized US citizen (the papers were filed in Los Angeles county). In 1917, he registered for the World War I draft in Vallejo, CA, where he listed himself as single. (regarding the surnames ... the family name of Laurencelle was tentatively changed to Russell by 1900 (as shown by the 1900 census), so the family would better be able to assimilate into US society, as they thought Laurencelle sounded too foreign. However, by 1910, most of the family members reverted to Laurencelle. John's naturalization papers of 1916 show him as John Laurencelle AKA John Russell ... but he never actually used the Russell surname.) I *believe* they were married in 1917 (or thereabouts). They were definitely married by March 1919, as that is when their first (twin) children were born. At that time, they were living in Vallejo, CA (and remained there until both of their deaths). I have been to the Solano county recorders office (the county for Vallejo, CA) and they very carefully looked at their records for an expanded timeframe ... 1900 through 1923 ... and there is no record of Hannah & John being married in Solano county. I was so disappointed; I was sure they had been married there. It occurred to me that perhaps they were actually married in Long Beach, which is where Hannah was living in 1917. I can't find any marriage information online for marriage documents for Long Beach/Los Angeles county for this timeframe. Would someone (some angel!) be willing to do some searching for me? My bottom line plan is to mail away for the document, but I'd rather not do that, if I don't need to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Shelley Rodgers
