    3. We're just 3 weeks away from Jamboree and as you can imagine, the Jamboree Committee is busily putting the finishing touches on this year's event. I'll issue a separate Jamboree update early next week, so please keep an eye open for that. And of course, for all the Jamboree news, check out the blog at www.genealogyjamboree.blogspot.com DEADLINE ALERT - Cutoff for advance registration for Jamboree is June 15. At that time we will no longer be able to take reservations for any of the special-event meals, the personal guided tour of Hollywood Forever Cemetery, or for Jamboree itself. Of course, you can register at the door but why not save yourself the hassle of standing in line when you could be roaming the exhibit floor or attending a lecture? Pre-register by June 15 and you'll have your registration materials, including your official pre-printed name badge, waiting for you. Please help put the registration goodie bags together. Meet at the SCGS Library at 10am and we'll work until we have 1200 bags stuffed. The more hands we have, the faster we'll finish. Pizza's on the Jamboree Committee. Library Closed for Jamboree Friday through Sunday June 27-29 Open House Saturday July 12 - 10am - 3pm Visit SCGS on Saturday, July 12 for guided tours of the Library, meet the volunteers and leaders of the Society, and learn how to make the most of a membership in SCGS. Open to the public, everyone's welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Kids' Only Scrapbooking with Laurie Schlichter Lunch and Learn Saturday August 9 - 12noon - 5pm Say good by to "I'm bored" and "There's nothing to do" this summer. She will encourage the children to showcase their memories and improve their storytelling skills while completing a scrap book. The $30.00 fee includes a scrap book, decorative pages, stickers and 3-D embellishments and use of tools. DNA Interest Group - 10am - 2pm Saturday August 30 - Last August many of our members chose to participate in the research project of the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. We will review how to make use of the testing information. Annual Used Book Sale Saturday October 4 - 9am - 3pm The SCGS Annual Book Sale is scheduled for October 4, 9am-3pm, at the SCGS Library, 417 Irving Drive, Burbank. Now's a great time to make some room on your bookshelves at home and show your support for SCGS. Bring your book donations to the Library any time before October 4th. Scrapbook Techniques for Genealogists with Pam Wiedenbeck Lunch and Learn - Saturday October 11 - 12noon - 4pm Pam Wiedenbeck will present an introduction to techniques for creating scrapbooks for genealogy and family history use. Scrapbooks supplement traditional genealogical names, places, and dates by providing pictures and physical artifacts related to the family history. A Creative Memories consultant will be available after the presentation. Appraisal Faire Saturday October 25 - 10am-12noon and 1pm-4pm At one time or another, you've probably inherited a trinket or important family heirloom. Although you would be hard-pressed to consider parting with it, you've been wondering about the insurance value, or want to know more about its history. You're in luck! Bring up to 3 items per person to the SCGS Appraisal Faire on Saturday, October 25 and consult with our qualified appraisers on the value of your items. $5 donation per item is requested. The Appraisal Faire will be held at the SCGS Library, 417 Irving Drive, Burbank, California, from 10-12noon and 1-4pm. The event is open to the public. An Afternoon with Barbara Renick Saturday, November 8 - 12noon - 4pm 1 - Making a List and Checking It Twice: There are many different types of lists and tools. This lecture covers making and using research summaries, alphabetical name lists, geographic research interest lists, surname spelling lists, e-mail filtering, searching archived mail lists, and hard drive searching. 2 - How Computers Are Changing Genealogical Research: Computers are changing the way we, as genealogists, do research. This lecture covers the four phases of genealogical research (survey, research, evaluation, and publication phases) from the era BC (Before Computers) to the era AD (After Disks).
