    3. Hi Margaret, I love receiving replies to my queiries, but your response has totally confused me.....smiles!! I'm not sure what you meant by handwritten numbers on the manifest of the Galveston arrival record usually indicate the court where the naturalization took place? I already have the Galveston arrival record (his immigration) and am not sure what that would have to do with naturalization records? He moved on to CA, which is where his naturalization was at least "declared as an intent". I have since obtained a copy of that "Declaration of Intention" in CA, and I'm happy to say, he's my man! Either we are talking about two different issues or perhaps, most likely actually, I totally misunderstood the intent of your reply. But thanks for your good intentions in replying. If you can help me understand further what you meant, I'd be happy to listen. Luana [email protected] wrote: > The Galveston arrival record lists handwritten numbers on the manifest.? 1. [CALOSANG] Fwd: Footnote.com - Found Declaration of Intention - have questions
    2. Dear Luana, I'm sorry for any confusion.? Declaration of Intention and Naturalization papers are two different documents.? The information on them likely varies, for example, different addresses would be likely over a 5 year time frame.? Declarations of Intention could be filed anytime after arrival.? Naturalizations required at least a 5-year residency.? While it is so, that the Declaration?usually leads to?naturalization, a person?could?file these in different courts.? When naturalization records were verified for accurate arrival information, the arrival manifests were?noted with the court id and other id information of the naturalization case nos.? ?Notice the handwritten numeric information noted on the manifest near the line where your ancestor is listed.? If the court code is decoded, then you can pursue the naturalization documents.? ?I imagine that your local NARA office would be helpful in decoding the court name and lead you to the naturalization document.? I hope this inform! ation is helpful or at least interesting.
