    3. Is there any way to get information on where a person lived in Pasadena around 1930 and 1940? My grandparents aren't listed in the 1930 census, even though I know for a fact they were living in Pasadena. In 1940 we don't have the benefit of the census records yet, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a directory or something. I'm trying to compile all my California addresses into one database...mostly because I'm really weird and feel the need to do that. (I do know that when my dad was born in 1940 he was brought home to Howard St. Before Howard St., his grandparents lived on Lincoln...right where they put the 210!) ...Marcella

    3. The Los Angeles Public Library, Central Library, History & Genealogy Dept., has Pasadena city directories from the early 1900s through the 1960s (with some gaps), but I am fairly certain they will not do lookups. Here's a link to the LAPL History & Genealogy Dept.'s webpage: http://www.lapl.org/central/history.html The Pasadena Public Library has a small collection of city directories, but I'm not sure which years they cover. They may do lookups. Here's a link to the PPL Ask-a-Librarian service webpage: http://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/reference.asp Mark Lomax P.S. You might try posting your grandparents' names, birth dates, and birthplaces, and letting the list members try locating them in the 1930 census. 3. Thank you, Deborah and Mark for your advice and help. My grandparents were Russell & Anna Bailey. They were married by then and expecting their first child. I don't think she was born by the time the census came around, but if she was, her name was/is Janet Bailey. They most likely were in Pasadena, as they hung around in that area until at least my dad was born in 1940. Russell Lucius Bailey was born on May 30, 1909 in Massachusetts. Anna Louise Bailey (nee Gates) was born on Feb 24, 1909 in Ohio. My great-grandparents were Frank & Louisa (or Louise) Gates. I have them in the 1930 Census on Lincoln Ave in Pasadena. By the way, I'm having tons of fun finding the addresses then looking them up on Google Maps (Street View). A lot of them are still there. I have a picture of my other side of the family standing in front of a house on 37th Street in L.A. The pictures was circa 1910. I Googled and found the house and it looks nearly the same. Very cool! By the way, I sent out a request regarding Daryl Gates' first wife. I'm not sure if it was received, but if anyone is able to help me, can you send it to me off list? I want to respect his privacy. Marcella
