These two indexes are undoubtedly for the same person, both having the same SSN. However the birth year is different on each and the death dates have a different day, month and year. There are obviously mistakes on one of the lists. My mom died in September, 2007. When her information was finally on the Social Security Death index, they had her last residence as Los Angeles, California. Well, she'd lived in Los Angeles for most of her life, but she'd lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for 10 years before she died and she died in Honolulu. I don't know how Social Security gets it's information; it very clearly states that she died in Honolulu on her death certificate and my sister gave Social Security all the informtion (including a copy of the death cert) when she notified them.
