    1. Re: [CALOSANG] Finley McKay death certificate
    2. Dear Nanc: When Fin" first came to America, they lived in Kewanee, Illinois, three of his four children were born there. In the 1930 census, I can not find his son John Bruce McKay either. It was the depression people were moving looking for a job. Maybe there is a Illinis Connection in California. Yea, I think he was listed as tinslay McKay, the census taker did not write very well. When we lok at old records on line, some are so faint, you can not read them. Yes that's Finlays family on the bottom. As a side note. Herbert Hoover of Stanford University, later President of the United States. Finlay's two sons, John Bruce and Kenneth McKay, rebuilt Herbert Hoover.s birthplace. In West Branch, Iowa. Thanks for all of your looking. Scott McKay Hi Scott. I checked the 1930 CA census again but still couldn't find Finley, Fin* or McKay/Mc Kay that matched. It's possible he was missed, traveling, or indexed under a misspelled name. In 1920 there is another Mc KAY family in Kern Co: Name: Walter C McKay [Walter C Mc Kay] Home in 1920: Township 15, Kern, California Age: 26 years Estimated Birth Year: abt 1894 Birthplace: Massachusetts Relation to Head of House: Head Spouse's Name: Emma M Father's Birth Place: United States of America Mother's Birth Place: United States of America Marital Status: Married Race: White Sex: Male Home owned: Rent Able to read: Yes Able to Write: Yes Image: 839 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Walter C McKay 26 Emma M McKay 20 William H White 25 There are 24 listings in 1930 in Kern Co. for McKAY, various ages and places of birth, none are from IA or Scotland. In Tulare Co. there are 5 listings for McKAY, Percy&family of Peru and Charles of CA. I checked the CA Voters list and found this listing, altho I have no idea if it's the right guy (it could be the one listed in the CADI previously posted); California Voter Registrations, 1900-1968 > Trinity County > 1900-1944 Cinnabar Precinct #42, McKay, Finley, 74y, Cinnabar (note: there is no date listed on this page) Perhaps you could post to the Tulare County message boards and ask if there's a volunteer who can find directory listings for East Eighth street in Visalia in that time period. And also to the Kern County message board for a cemetery lookup.
