Thanks Joe for your very kind offer. I will keep it in mind but I have a friend who lives in Orange County who may be able to do the same for me. I was going to get them mailed to him and get him to email to me as the postage to US on that site was $18-50. It won't seem so bad if I buy two and the postage is the same which I think I will need to do now - refer email to the list. I may even be able to sweet talk him into going to the recorders office for me if they are open on weekends without much trouble. :) I just got back from there last Sunday - if I had found this sooner I could have done it myself! Thanks for checking the newspapers too for me. That was another avenue I was looking at. This sure is a helpful list! :) Thanks again Lyn In Oz. > -----Original Message----- > From: calosang-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:calosang-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joe Walker > Sent: Thursday, 20 October 2011 6:29 AM > To: calosang@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] SHAW Castaic > > Lyn.. > Darn! Hello everyone I am back again. :) I ordered the two death certificates through Vital Check for the 2 William T Shaws that died 21 Nov 1961 both in Los Angeles 70. The second was aged 50 and resided in Laverne. They arrived today and, as I suspected would happen, they sent me two copies of the same certificate even though I did two orders and emailed them to try and make them understand. :( At least they did send me the one I really wanted. It is for my William Trimble SHAW. He died aged 93 from cerebral vascular accident that had happened 7 days before and had suffered from Cerebral arteriosclerosis. He had never married so it seems that the other death is mere co-incidence. He was a resident at Green Acres Lodge in South San Gabriel. I see it is still running so I thought I might write to them and see if they have any archives. I have his social security number now and I may send for the file just to find out where he worked etc. His occupation on the death certificate was janitor. Looking in the 1930 census he only one I could find that fitted was one in gaol in Indiana - it was the depression so I wonder how serious his offence was. I was rather surprised his was a janitor given his background but perhaps after a stint in gaol that was all the work he could get - it sounds like his might be a rather sad story but even so I'd like to be able to tell it. His death certificate says he had been in California 28 years. He was buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery which appears to be a Catholic Cemetery - the Shaw family were Protestants so that seem unusual. I would appreciate any thoughts from the list on what avenues I might follow now. Regards Lyn In Oz.
Hi Lyn, Thanks for keeping us updated! The Green Acres Lodge where he passed is indeed still there. I have been there, as it is somewhat famous as the death place of Jerome "Curley" Howard from the Three Stooges. I highly doubt that they have records, but you could always try. Queen of Heaven is NOT a Catholic Cemetery. It is multi-denomonational.
