I've "rescued" an old photograph of L. M. EAST which was taken at the J. H. Kent Studio in Rochester, New York. The photograph is dated 1881 with the woman in the photograph appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the woman in the photograph: Louise Matilda FOWLER EAST was b. 20 Jul 1868 in Canada and d. 23 Aug 1945 in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 77 years. Louise's Mother's maiden name was BEATTIE. Census records provide the following information regarding the family: 1900 census of Greece, NY: Benjamin F. EAST, age 41, born Jul 1858, married 15 years, born NY, parents born England/MI, a Meat Dealer Louise M. EAST, wife, age 36, born Jul 1864, married 15 years, 3 children/2 living, born Canada, parents born Scotland Franklin B. EAST, son, age 11, born May 1889, born NY, at School H. Rufus EAST, son, age 5, born May 1895, born NY + 2 Servants 1910 census of Los Angeles Township, CA: Matilda L. EAST, age 41, a widow, 6 children/3 living, born Canada, parents born Scotland, Own Income Benjamin F. EAST, son, age 20, born NY, parents born NY/Canada, a Wells Fargo Clerk Henry R. EAST, son, age 14, born NY, parents born NY/Canada Thomas EAST, son, age 9, born NY, parents born NY/Canada 1920 census of Crescent/Cahuenga Township, CA: Henry R. EAST, age 24, born NY, parents born NY/Canada, a Movie Director Louise M. EAST, mother, age 50, married?, to USA 1870, born Canada, parents born Scotland Charles FOWLER, uncle, age 72, a widower, to USA 1864, born Scotland, parents born Scotland Thomas L. EAST, brother, age 18, born NY, parents born NY, a Cast Camera Man in Movies It appears that Louise's husband Benjamin F. EAST was still alive and living in Monterey and Los Angeles, CA during these same periods of time, always listed as "married" in census records. Louise's son Henry R. EAST b. 20 May 1895 in NY, died in Los Angeles, CA on 20 April 1989 at the age of 93 years. He may well have been the famous movie dog trainer married to actress Gail HENRY EAST, just not certain. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family.
