(Sorry if this is redundant but I just picked up this thread and wanted to throw some light on the subject.) The LA Public Library has copies of the DAR transcriptions from the 1930's for a variety of cemeteries. As was stated earlier, the transcriptions are not complete. They do not include sections of some cemeteries (as in Evergreen, for example, that were not predominantly "white") and they are tombstone transcriptions so unmarked graves are not included. The Southern California Genealogical Society has published several directories, including: Mountain View Cemetery 1880-1933 in Altadena / Pasadena Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery (including cemetery records, not just headstone transcription) Savannah Pioneer Cemetery in Rosemead (the list is online at www.scgsgenealogy.com) Evergreen Cemetery in Lompoc (not Los Angeles County) Rosedale Cemetery Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Cemetery (includes cemetery records, not just headstone transcriptions) Cemetery Records of Inyo County, California At SCGS, you can also find Los Angeles Burial Permits 1879-1892 Los Angeles City Death Records 1877-1899 Online Los Angeles Times Obituary Index (free index, copies available at a nominal fee) Outside of SCGS, you'll find many resources as well. Jim Seidelman has done an outstanding job of documenting burials at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and he has posted those on Find-A-Grave. The California GenWeb site LA County Cemetery listings can be found at http://theusgenweb.org/ca/losangeles/langecem.htm I agree that the key to any death information in LA is to track down the death certificate. Good luck on your search!
