Have you considered a free website from rootsweb.com? I have one which I've uploaded a 2001 obituary index for San Joaquin county obituaries.....learn about it here http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2008 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Socal Yearbooks web site To all, The web site has been down for three weeks and it looks like it won't be coming back on line. The web hosts are not responding to my e-mails and they haven't billed me for eight months - that probably should have been my first clue . . . I'm searching for a new host now, but I'm pretty dumb about this stuff so don't really know what I need. If I could find one that advertises "simple sites for simple people," I'd know that was the right one for me. Most seem to be geared toward small business and I only need the basics. I'll be able to reconstruct most of the pages, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to match my saved images with names, so may not include photos in the beginning. Somewhere in the garage is a box with copies of the individual school pages. If I ever find that box, I'll be able to upload images to the pages with assurance that I have the names correct. Most of the yearbooks are gone; sold, given away or donated to historical societies. I have quite a few here which have not been transcribed yet, but it will be a while before I can get to them. I'm sorry about the information being lost. I should have transferred to another host ages ago, but assumed it would require learning something new so put it off. I'll let you all know when the site becomes available for viewing. okay - I have set up another web site: www.socal-yearbooks.com It will take the rest of my life to change the urls on the existing links - but I have discovered that if you go the new site, it picks up cached (or is it archived?) pages from the internet. So, for at least a while, you can still read the old pages via the new url. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 18, 2008 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Socal Yearbooks web site > To all, > > The web site has been down for three weeks and it looks like it won't be > coming back on line. Regarding the discussions about obtaining birth certificates, which is faster, LA County in Santa Fe Springs, or Sacramento?
Why can't we have political candidates that promise & deliver a better job providing vital records?? Forced to order from Sacramento, my request went out the other day. I fully expect to get results after one year is up. Adoption birth recs can only be retrieved from the state and that is for the post adoption record not the original birth parent birth rec. If I have not turned old, grey & dead, I will report the time it took to receive it. Sue A
It has been a while since I order records, but if the state is still at its former status - NEVER order from the state. When they seriously state it will take OVER a year to fulfill the order that is beyond belief - most third world countries can do better. ALWAYS order from the county. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: "calosang" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 5:12 PM Subject: [CALOSANG] Birth Certificates Regarding the discussions about obtaining birth certificates, which is faster, LA County in Santa Fe Springs, or Sacramento? ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
1. You may already have checked here....the East Los Angeles County Library has a collection of newspapers on CD. You might contact them to see if they have any of these specific papers. http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/rsch-EastLA.htm 2. Regarding yearbooks, you might check Karla's excellent yearbook website: About once a year I remind the researchers of Southern California families to take a look at this web site (url below): www.4dw.net/socal Search for your parents or grandparents in the yearbook listings. All classes listed are at least 50-years-old and all are from Southern California. No ads and strictly non-profit. Hope you find your ancestors. What a difference a letter makes. Article wise there is not much. There is a 10 Dec 1944 (page 2, Pacific Echoes, Gene Sherman, Brisbane, Australia), sort of a social article, ...Harold A. KURBAT, 495 S. Spaulding Drive, Beverly Hills, a bot skipper in the "Army's Navy," was at the American Center, too. "I am on my way to Sydney," I told him. "Oh, brother," said Hal. "Nice town, eh?" I said. "Oh, brother," said Hal. No doubt referring to R&R activities. There is a 25 May 1949 mentioning (Page B3) that Harold KURBAT was best man at the wedding of Marilou RALKE and Gordon Crane CERSWELL, though the title reads "CRANE-RALKE Vows Taken in Church". And the funeral annoucement for Carl's brother William that I sent you. There are directory listings http://rescarta.lapl.org:8080/ResCarta-Web/jsp/RcWebSimpleSearch.jsp starting in 1929 with Carl and Ina, but the next available listing 1936 does not show either Carl or Ina. There is a George and Gordon. The 1938 listing indicates that Carl has married another, Frieda and there is a Frieda on the CADI, 1897-1979.
