Please contact me quickly if you have this woman in your family. Or, if you know the children of Major "Pancho" J. F. Guirado who served in the First Battallion of the Native Calvary of California in the Civil War, please contact me. I'm unable to find Louisa in any census other than the 1900 after she has married Max Schwed, but I'm pretty sure the spelling of her last name is close to Guirado. The 1900 Los Angeles census has: Schwed, Max head w m Jan 1853 47 M 21 Ger Ger Ger Merchant Schwed, Louisa wife w f May 1842 58 M 21 Cal Mex Mex Schwed, David son w m Jan 1880 19 S Cal Ger Cal Schwed, Emma dau w f May 1883 17 S Cal Ger Cal Pozonena?, Nievas gdau w f Dec 1886 16 Cal Cal Cal Emma graduated from Sacred Heart in 1899. Louisa probably died 10/13/1913. David may have died in 1910. In 1898 the Schweds lived at 2713 East 1st Street and Max had two brothers living in New Jersey.
Thank you Nancy, that was some help. You see Percy PIERCE-NOYES was separated from her husband, on the 1910 census, she was living with her son in Los Angeles, she said she was a widow on the census, but her husband didn't die till the early 1900's. Some times it seems my ancestors are trying to trip me up, because they change their name every census. I have seen Percy change her name so much, she must have been running from the law. THANK YOU FOR YOU KINDNESS Shirley Noyes-Sullivan
May I ask what Pierce you are researching? I've got some in the LA area myself. I am located in Chicago. Thanks, Suzan **************Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. I found one listing in a Los Angeles City directory/1930, NOYES Alvina Mrs. r1929 S Hoover pg.1711, city of Los Angeles CARTER Margt Mrs h1929 S Hoover pg.591, city of Los Angeles This address would be the same one that appears in the 1930 CA census for Pirca A NOYES with her daughter Margaret CARTER in Los Angeles, that might make that death info found for Alvina NOYES d.2/21/32, a little more interesting and maybe worth while to send for a copy of the death certificate. Could you clarify this a bit - I am confused. Generally CAPS in genealogy are for surnames so I am not certain if you are referring to a given or surname. Hi, Karla, I want to thank you for all of your hard work. I discovered your site perhaps 3 years or so ago, and found my mom listed in the Spring 1935 class at Los Angeles Junior College. She remembered many of the people on that list. She passed away last year one week after her 92nd birthday and had senile dementia. I'm glad I found your site so I could show her that list before she passed and while she could remember the names of people she'd known. Hi, I've been looking at a page of the California Death Index for the 1930s and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the column headings are. I can read Name of Descedant, the larger column Age (not the two sub-columns underneath), Date of Death, Local File Number, and State File Number. There are several column headings on the copy I have that are two blurry to read. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jan Rader Kent, Ohio

Karla: I just remembered that there is something called the Internet Archives WayBack Machine. You go to the WayBack website and then you type in the web address (URL) for a site that used to exist in the past. Then it brings up those past pages. This site captures and archives past websites. STEPS TO ACCESS AN OLD SITE: Go to: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php Type in the URL of the web site you want research [ex: your old web site-url below] http://www.4dw.net/socal And then click on "Take Me Back". Next click on one of the old dates and then it takes you back. The links appear to be active well. I don't know if this might help you in any way while you are rebuilding your new site.
