    1. Re: [CALOSANG] CCC camp records
    2. Pat Stromberg
    3. Hi all I am trying to find CCC camp records for my father, George D Brundige, b. March 8, 1915 in Los Angeles. He attended Garfield High School and graduated in 1933. From 1933 to 1935 he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp.? I do not know specifically where he served. Has anyone had experience in locating records for family members in the Los Angeles area who were in the CCC's? Are there specific places that someone in LA would be assigned? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Pat

    3. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY CLOSED FOR RESEARCH TO DECEMBER 16 Recent rains and a leaking roof at the SCGS library caused extensive damage to walls and carpeting in the area of the patron computers and the membership office. Cleanup and repair efforts are underway, but many shelves of books had to be moved. The library will be closed for normal operations until Tuesday, December 16. Fortunately no books in our collection were damaged, and computer damage appears to be minimal. The GSHA-CA holiday party planned for this Saturday has been postponed to Saturday, February 7. At this point, the SCGS annual meeting and holiday potluck is still planned for Saturday, December 13 If you are planning to attend a special event or meeting at the Library, please check with the meeting organizer before coming to the Library. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Paula Hinkel Southern California Genealogical Society 417 Irving Drive Burbank, CA 91504

    2. Thanks to Joseph's information, I was able to retrieve all the pages. The new url is www.socal-yearbooks.com. Newly added are MANY San Bernardino HS class rosters, transcribed by Bobby in Mira Loma; Long Beach Poly HS 1933, 34, 35 from Lynn R.; and the 1918 - 1922 Benjamin Franklin HS, Highland Park which Joan N. had previously shared with the CALOSANG list and generously offered to the web site. Most recent additions are the 1909, 1918 and 1922 LAHS. Next to be uploaded is the 1899 USC El Rodeo, which Larry in Kelso, WA has scanned in its entirety. I have purchased several new yearbooks recently, but there have been so many contributed transcriptions that I have not had time to get to them. Thank you all for your contributions and interest in the web site. 1. [CALOSANG] New Zealander Arthur Stone died in Loa Angeles, California. How? Where?
    2. Denise & Peter
    3. Hi folks. Congratulations on a good outcome in your recent general election. I am hoping for a similar successful result in our elections to be held this Saturday. Arthur Stone, the first husband of my Great Grandmother, Minnie Dennison (nee Rigby), died in Los Angeles on June 7th 1887. I knew he had died there as my Mother told me but I didn't know specific dates or details. My sister has just found his date of death from FamilyTreeGuide.com. Family stories say that he died either from scarlet fever or as the result of a pub brawl. He was 25 and his parents had moved to Auckland, New Zealand in the very early 1840s where Arthur was born on August 11th 1862. It is also unknown what he was doing in California but I believe his father, Captain James Stone, had shipping connections. I wonder if anyone with access to Los Angeles records has any means of finding out the truth behind his death and if any of the family stories are correct? Any and all help would be much appreciated. Ideally a newspaper report of the pub brawl or his death from scarlet fever. Regards to all on this list. 1. [CALOSANG] Marriage Cert. ca 1904
    2. I have received a copy of a marriage certificate for my great grandmother, ca 1904, in Long Beach, CA. It gives the groom's and bride's names, the witnesses, and the officiant. Does anyone know if there was a marriage certificate application that would have provided more information regarding the family of the bride or groom during this time period? I have tried contacting the officiant's church without success in obtaining additional information, I have been unable to locate the stated witnesses in the 1900 or 1910 census, and the groom is unfortunately deceased by 1907. I do not have direct access to records in SoCal, so would appreciate any insight. Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance, Robin

    3. You would have to contact the L.A. Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office in Norwalk to find out if they retain marriage license applications. I think it is unlikely they would have retained applications from as far back as 1904. I tried to get a copy of a marriage license application from the early 1960s from San Bernardino County. I was told that because the state does not require retention of the applications, they are destroyed after about 5 years. 3. I located Max Schwed and "Lovisa " in the 1910 census, Los Angeles Co. CA. In the 1920 census (LA, CA) Max Schwed and son-in-law, Adolph Frankel, (Emma's husband) are widowers living together with Max's two grandsons. In 1930, Max is living with his grandsons, Philip and David. California Voters Reg. has Max registered in 1916, 1922, 1924, and 1934. You are correct that Louisa died 10-13-13 at age 73. David died 10-6-08 at age 27. Emma (Frankel) died 10-12-16 at age 33. Max died 5-2-36 at age 83. I hope this helps you some. The 1900 Los Angeles census has: Schwed, Max head w m Jan 1853 47 M 21 Ger Ger Ger Merchant Schwed, Louisa wife w f May 1842 58 M 21 Cal Mex Mex Schwed, David son w m Jan 1880 19 S Cal Ger Cal Schwed, Emma dau w f May 1883 17 S Cal Ger Cal Pozonena?, Nievas gdau w f Dec 1886 16 Cal Cal Cal Emma graduated from Sacred Heart in 1899. Louisa probably died 10/13/1913. David may have died in 1910. In 1898 the Schweds lived at 2713 East 1st Street and Max had two brothers living in New Jersey.
