Dear Readers, Another reader wrote that my message was confusing. My Grandmother ONLY DIED in Tulare county. But she and her 3 sisters were ALL BORN IN LOS ANGELES. That is why I need their birth information in order to find their parents names. Any ideas out there? Thank you and sorry I wrote confusingly. Lillian K. It is very beautiful and the people were quite helpful. It's no wonder they called it Mountain View. Heather, Mountain View is one of my favorite cemeteries. One thing that is really weird about the place is that there are no gates to keep after hours visitors away..so essentially you can go to the place 24 hours. Lilly, Thanks for the information. One of these days I am going to make up a list of the various sites like that one that newer researchers may not know about. I would like to share this discovery story with the list as it may help someone. I am researching my Grandmother. I knew that she must have had siblings, but I had rarely heard of them. I recently was told by another researcher how to use the California Death records in a search. I first went to the records, which I have listed below. Then I put in the father's last name and the mother's maiden name of my Grandmother, which is all I knew. I then hit search and up came 3 people who all had the same Father/Mother combination of names. The birthdates were all close together and all the names were clearly Irish Catholic names like my Grandmother. These are her 3 sister's. I will now use that information to further research them also. http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi I hope this helps someone. Lillian Kathleen Martin
My Grandmother was Katherine Ann McGuire Leach b. 2/17/1905 d. 5/20/1960 Tulare Co., CA in Los Angeles. Her father was Mr. McGuire and her mother's maiden name was Hart. Here are her 3 sisters: 1. Mary Theresa McGuire Vail b. 10/6/1911 L.A.d: 10/3/89 2. Margaret Agnes McGuire Koback 6/12/1913 L.A.d. 1/3/84 3. Sally Ann McGuire Sorenson b.7/15/1914 L.A. d. 10/25/94 I need to find the parents names. If there are Catholic Vital records available in Los Angeles, where would you find that? Are there birth records available online for Los Angeles in this time frame? If you are connected to these people, please write. Thank you for your help. Lillian Kathleen Martin.
I enjoyed your story on how to sort and use the CADI. Altho, Tulare Co is not in Los Angeles, but Lindsay is in Tulare Co Mary died in Fresno County Margaret died in Los Angeles County, which I can add to my long list for a death certificate transcription Sally died in Santa Clara County. Birth certificates are obtainable from the County or the State for a fee (certified only). Births from 1905-1963 are considered confidential and only immediate family can view at the county level. I went down to Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena today and found and took pictures of my great aunt Sadie A. Best Rapp's grave maker. To my delighted surprise, her husband, whom I understood had remarried and not looked back, was buried next to her. First, thank you, Deborah for getting Sadie's DCT in the first place so that I could find her. I am hoping that when you get a chance (I know you're a bit busy right now) you could transcribe William's DC for me as well: William Henry Rapp b. September 25, 1884 d. January 10, 1935 Thank you for your time and effort for all of us, Heatherdawn
Nice of you to share your story. Persistace sometimes can win out. I went four times to look for a second wife of my grandfrather's and still could not locate it. Well, on that particular day we had nothing but troubles finding headstones of family members in the same cemetery. It turns out that the rules they had for counting out the headstones in one area was not so for another. Besides Inglewood is a very large cemetery. Our story had a very happy ending, tho. The caretakers sent out a helper to assist us and he had troubles at first. He knew the headstone was there,so we took photos of him digging to the headstone. Unfortunately Wanda's headstone was next to a tree and had sunk downward. She has a clean headstone now and we feel much better for it. The cemetery office told me they were in this area, but would not explain what had happened. On Dec. 23, 2001, my cousins and I, joined by our husbands and shovels, actually went DIGGING. Rayene, Welcome to the world of the funeral industry, where they are nice to you as long as you are waving money in front of them. Everyone at a funeral home is selling something, and you couldn't make a dime for them. Almost all L.A. Times obituaries are paid one's, and most people then and now don't pay to have them done. Only the well known deaths get any press at all. Calvary is a great cemetery--I was just there this Sunday taking pictures. But, they only have a card that tell's where people are buried. I have just joined the list and would appreciate if some kind person would look up three family members obituaries for me. I'm not sure if I'm out of line asking for this from the members. I have called the funeral home, Cunningham and O'Conner, and asked for the information they have on them, but they refused. They said the information could only be given to the person who had made the arrangements. That is strange.....why would a person who made the arrangements, want information that they had given in the first place? This is the first time I have run into this obstacle. I have had great luck calling funeral homes all over California. They have responded quickly with the information that I requested and I've always written them a "thank you" for their efforts. I was very discouraged and called back later, asking if they could tell me the newspaper that the obituary would have been sent to and I was told the Los Angeles Times. All three of the people died in Los Angeles. If you could find a obituary on any of them, I would be so grateful. I want to find anything possible on Platt Vallejo, but have not been able to come up with anything at all, except his death date and where he's buried. Their names are: PLATT C. VALLEJO June 17, 1933 KATHERINE CULLEN VALLEJO (could be that ISORA would be listed as first name) Oct. 26, 1955 MARGARET HELEN CULLEN Died Nov. 20, 1955 Thank you so much for any ideas, or help you may give me. Joe I had the same thought about two years ago. I use to do the postings if no did after about two weeks, but then the list got real busy. I even did marriage postings to the birth indexes as well as DCT's for parents who died before 1940. Lost them, tho. Unfortunately if anyone looks for my family I have been very bad about posting the information. It takes me about 15 minutes to type all the detail into Family Origins for one DCT. Deborah ps- I now have internet access and the time to assist with lookups of death dates for pre-1940 thru my Vitalsearch subscription. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Walker" <joe_walker_2000@yahoo.com> To: <CALOSANG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 18, 2002 6:25 AM Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Luchetti > Pat, > According to > http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi > Victor died in 1984 at the ripe old age of 98. > > However, further examination shows that you already > made a notation on his Rootsweb entry.
