    3. From: http://www.pbs.org/greatspeeches/timeline/ George Patton, speaking on film, urges war support, Los Angeles, CA, June 9, 1945: "Your honorable mayor, General Doolittle, soldiers, ladies and gentlemen: Coming over here there was a very great lesson: The first four hours we passed over a destroyed land, utterly destroyed. You who have not seen it, do not know what hell looks like from the top. That's what Germany looks like. That's what Austria looks like. That's what any place that the 8th Airforce and the 3rd Army worked on looks like. You must remember this, that from Brest to various towns in southern Germany and Austria whose names I can't pronounce but whose places I have removed, the trail of the 3rd Army and the 19th Tactical Air Command and the 8th Airforce is marked by more than 40 thousand white crosses, 40 thousand dead Americans." --- Dave Hug <davey@lightspeed.net> wrote: > Just after the war ended, General Patton gave a > speech at the LA Coliseum. > It could have been 4th of July, 1946, I don't know. > I was there. 1. [CALosAngeles] CALosAngeles] Cullen and Vallejo DCT Look Up in Los Angeles
    2. Rayene
    3. Hi Phil, What a great job you've done, in such a short time. I looked through the Vallejos (your site) and have an idea. Do you think one of Platt's sisters may have been married to the L. Kincaid mentioned in the 1880 census below that was sent to me by Lynn. It's just a thought. "I found a Platton Jalejo in 1880 census. First Ward, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA, page 145B Living with L. Kincaid family, who is listed as a RR conductor. Platton Valejo--Bro.-in-law, M S W 23 CA- R. R. Brakeman" I think I'll check in Randolph County, Illinois for a possible marriage certificate for Platt and Katherine Cullen. The chances are that they may have been married there before coming to California. Those brakemen really got around. I see also there is a Roach in your record. Katherine Cullen Vallejo mother was Mary Roche, which many have spelled Roach. They were all in Randolph County, Illinois. Also, ten days ago we visited Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Los Angeles and I took pictures of the gravesite of Platt. I had heard that he was buried there, along with Katherine. Her two spinster sisters are buried very near also. I have always heard that they had no children. He died in Los Angeles June 17, 1933. The incredible thing is that Katherine is buried next to him and the grave is unmarked. The cemetery gave me the exact spot and their records show there is no memorial marker for her. Her dates are b. 8-18-1874 in Randolph County, Il. and d. 10-26-1955 in Los Angeles. Her records show that she is Isora K. Vallejo. Someone wrote to me that the name would probably be Isidora and she had seen the same mistake made many times for her relative. Calvary is a very lovely old cemetery that is beautifully maintained. The majority of names I saw were Spanish surnames. We wondered why Platt wasn't in a family plot area. I see in your file there is another Isidora Vallejo. I wonder if that could have been a close relative and Katherine took on the name to please the family. We were at a church book sale about ten years ago, right a round the corner from my home in San Diego. I found an old Bible that's a small size to carry to church. Inside the cover was the name Katherine Vallejo, so I bought it. The address is 1611 Curson Ave, GL 0022, Hollywood, West Hollywood Presby. Church. Also written is Psalm 51-10 and in the book it's circled. "Create in me a clean heart, O God." On the fly leaf is the name Juanita Vallejo, Rally Day, Oct. 3, '20. There's a newspaper clipping from May 4, 1940, so I'm pretty confident that this was her Bible. Would you say that's serendipitous???? I don't know anything about Juanita Vallejo. I had never thought that someday I may be able to put a puzzel like this one together. Thanks to you, Phil, Lynn, Elvina and Joe, for opening the doors to new questions. Rayene in San Diego

    3. Shelly: Isn't this list great? I know exactly how you feel. I, too, have been researching the roots of my biological father. Thanks to Deborah Story supplying me with his DCT and those of his brothers, I have managed to make contact in the last 6 months with 4 half brothers that I came to know about when I met my father briefly 25 years ago. I have also spoken to an older half sister for the very first time and discovered another half sister that I am trying to locate. Through Deborah's efforts on this list I have been able to accomplish in just a few months what I have been trying to do for 25 years! And that wasn't even my focus to start with! I was just trying to learn more about my father. Hooray for the CALOSANG list! 3. I have been watching the developments of the search for Platt Vallejo with interest, only because I am passionate about California History. Thanks go out to Phil Long for providing this list with a bit of REAL California History. I would like to take this opportunity to suggest reading the Classic in Literature "Two Years Before the Mast". You may have been forced to read that in school. It is one of my favorite books, and it really gives the "up close and personal" history of the California coast about 1850, from the eyes of a sailor coming into San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, on up to San Francisco. These busy overpopulated places were empty then, if you can even imagine that! Go to the Library and check it out. It is a true story. Lillian Kathleen Martin

    1. [CALosAngeles] Going to meet my "new" sisters in Europe!
    2. I just have to once again thank all the hard working volunteers at "Calosang" for providing information that can sometimes be life altering! Through this "group," I found out about my biological dad, who unfortunately passed away in 1992, however, his obit which was provided for me in December of 1999 lead me to find two "new" half-sisters that I never knew I had! I have been corresponding with both of them in Europe for the last year and a half and am FINALLY going to meet them this summer! My "Flanigan" roots lead me to find a sister living in Germany and another in Ireland. Even at the ripe old age of 45 it is still exciting to meet new siblings and learn more about my family. For those of you searching for parents and/or other lost relatives all I can say is keep it up! The pursuit can be very rewarding and very surprising! Shelly "Flanigan"-Washington State
