    1. RE: [CALosAngeles] Obit Possible Request?
    2. Chris Shearer Cooper
    3. Might there still be a death notice (I'm not completely sure how that's different from an obit)? She died alone in her apartment (pneumonia and alcoholism) and was found some time later, is that enough to warrant a mention in the paper? (or is that a far-too-common way to go)? Thanks! 1. [CALosAngeles] Obit Possible Request?
    2. Chris Shearer Cooper
    3. I'm investigating Paula Lee who died Jan. 17, 1959 in Los Angeles. She died penniless and alone (the county had to bury her), and a librarian out there told me it was unlikely there would be any mention in the paper of her passing (let alone a full-fledged obituary). She had been living at 1541 W. 11th Place, I'm not sure which paper covers that address anyway .. Is it worth trying to find an obit or death notice for her? Thanks! Chris

    3. Chris, That librarian was right. Unless someone dies a violent death, or they were prominent in some way, there would be no obit. 1. [CALosAngeles] Joseph and Fannie Howe
    2. I am researching Joseph Howe and Fannie Marsh Howe. They are both buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles. They moved to Los Angeles in 1877 and may have been in the grocery business. Before moving to LA they were in the grocery business in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Joseph was born June 21, 1819 in OH and Fannie was born Nov. 22, 1822 in Cinn., OH. (daughter of Elias Marsh). In 1852 they moved from OH to Iowa. They had the following children: Charles S. Howe, William C. Howe, Joseph M. Howe, George Edward Howe. I'm not sure about their daughters names. Charles is buried in Iowa; the other sons at Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles. I would love to get in contact with other descendants. Kathy

    3. If this interests you . . . I have an index to the 1890 Los Angeles Great Register. In it is listed: Howe, Charles, 45 of OH, living at 1438 San Fernando, Los Angeles, registered 20 Oct 1890, page 221 Howe, George E., 28 of IA, living at 1216 San Pedro, Los Angeles, registered 14 Oct 1890, page 221 Howe, Joseph, 74 of NH, living in Highland Park, registered 17 Oct 1890, page 250 Howe, Joseph M., 39 of OH, living at 121 6th st, Los Angeles, registered 14 Oct 1890, page 221 Looks like at least 3 for these could be yours. Copies of the register are available on Microfilm through the Family History Libraries and many public libraries throughout California. Addition info such as occupation maybe found on the register. 1. [CALosAngeles] DCT for Effie May Forbes
    2. John Salmon
    3. I'm sending this to the list because I do not know who initially requested the DCT. In the DCT for Effie May Forbes the address for the mother, Emma Cox is given as Axbridge Sommeralt Shire England, just in case the lister is not fully up to speed on the Counties of England Sommeralt Shire should be spelt Somerset so the address should read, Axbridge, Somerset, England. Axbridge is the town and Somerset the county. I hope this helps. I know from personal experience that sometimes the wrong spelling can sometimes lead to all sorts of problems :-). Please accept that this is in no way a criticism of the excellent work carried out by Deborah who has been extremely helpful to me in the past. Regards John Somerset Searching: 'SALMON' from Fremont/Rio Blanco County, Colorado, from 1870's onwards and California from 1910.

    3. I did a quick search at the Los Angeles library and this is what it came up with: Record # 1 of 156 Subjects 1. Yang Na -- a place name and not a tribal name. Indians indigenous to the Los Angeles basin area were mostly Gabrielino Indians of the Shoshonean linguistic stock. Yang Na was a village name. Please note that there are some records in this file which mislead the reader to conclude that the tribal name was Yang-Na. http://www.lapl.org/elec_neigh/index.html Search of the web for Gabrielino Indians: http://www.tongva.com/ Deborah ----- Original Message ----- From: "obusy1" <obusy1@email.msn.com> To: <CALOSANG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2002 9:04 AM Subject: [CALosAngeles] Los Angeles Indian Tribes > > Family history suggests that my grandmother was part Indian. 3. I am glad to see such help in regards to the transcriptions. I write down what I see and of course everyone knows that in the case of a death certificate it is only as good as the person providing the information. That is why sometimes I put notes inside the transcriptions {note}. I like the person getting the transcription to know that the death certificate was transcribed as read, not that I provided a typo. Althought I am sure there can be typo's. Typing in 50 in one day, can lead to them. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read a DCT that was not yours and to provide insight into the correct information.
