    3. Your friendly and open attitude is so welcome. Heck, if I could, I would find those people, go knock on their door, and have them call you while I stood there!  : )  So nice to have people ask for things in a nice way, in stark contrast to inquiries like this:   NEED DEATH CERTIFICATE TRANSCRIPTION OF DOE, JOHN, DATE OF DEATH SOMETIME IN 20TH CENTURY. ADVISE HOW LONG I HAVE TO WAIT!  NEED ASAP. JIM DOE   Next day: HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY INFO??   You get the point! 1. [CALOSANG] OBIT John Buchanan Armstrong, 87
    2. Barbara & George Grenier
    3. ZANESVILLE [OH Muskingum Co]: John Buchanan Armstrong, 87, of Primrose Retirement Community, Zanesville, and formerly of New Concord, passed away May 27, 2012, at Emeritus At North Hills, Zanesville. John was the son of the late John A. and Anna Buchanan Armstrong. Born on November 18, 1924, in Glendale, CA, he and his sister Anne were raised in Beaver, PA. He was graduated from Beaver High School, and went into the Army in 1943. He served in the European Theater, was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant from Company L, 291st Infantry Regiment. He was a recipient of the <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/purple-heart/?personid=157847154&affiliateID=2826>Purple Heart. John was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with honor. He went on to earn an MLS from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1950, where he met his future wife, Roberta (Bobby) Malcolm. They married in 1951. He served as a librarian at the University of New Hampshire, <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/purdue-university/?personid=157847154&affiliateID=2826>Purdue University, Akron University, and Muskingum College. John retired, happily, from Muskingum as Librarian Emeritus in 1990. John had a curious mind and many interests. Known for his life-long love of trains, at one time he worked for the P&LE, served for several years as treasurer for the model railroad club in Zanesville, and filled the house with models, books, and memorabilia. He loved music. Favorites included opera, classical, and Scottish fiddle and bagpipe music. His love of bagpipes led him to try his hand at playing- practicing while marching around and around a friend's farm field. Other joys included his five "above average" grandchildren, Scotland- his ancestral home, mechanical toys, crossword puzzles, science fiction, and dogs. Friends and family miss his keen intellect and his encyclopedic memory, and his sharp sense of humor. Many thanks to the staff at both Primrose Retirement Community and Emeritus Memory Unit for their patient and loving care. He is survived by his wife, Bobby; daughter, Amy W. Armstrong and her husband, Robert E. Cape; daughter, Carey Fraser Armstrong-Ellis, and her husband, Peter B. Ellis; grandchildren, Abigail Armstrong Cape, Julia Malcolm Cape, Charles Buchanan Cape, Erin Armstrong Ellis, and Emily Moffat Ellis; and many cousins and extended family. His sister, Anne Armstrong Sargent, is deceased. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, June 2, at Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 West Main Street, New Concord. A memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania in September. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the U.S.O. or the National Model Railroad Association. 1. Re: [CALOSANG] Looking for 2 Fox relative's burial places.
    2. the cohens
    3. Thanks Joe, What I meant by his being able to eventually find their burials is - if and when someone lists all the burials in the cemetery they are in - assuming they are in a public cemetery or cemeteries, and they may or may not be. Or, if and when the records for the mortuary that handled their final disposition get indexed or go online, that does sometimes happen. That sort of thing could eventually appear either if the LDS or a local genealogy group takes on such a project. But I would not hold my breath waiting. I do hope Don can find their grandchildren, and that their grandchildren will know. The other thing might be to contact that Church that was mentioned in the wife's obituary, if it is still around, and see if the people there have any best guesses about what the likely cemetery would be. Then Don could write or call the most likely cemeteries to see if his relatives are buried there. 3. Don, Have you tried tracking down Stanton and Margaret's grandchildren to see if they know? Grandchildren often do not necessarily know where their grandparents were buried, but it might be worth a try. But I would guess you know the surest way to find out where someone is buried, is to order a death certificate? It costs $14, but would save you a lot of work. If you know who the grandchildren are, but have lost touch, you could try free online people finding tools - directories and public records - to locate them. I tried finding Lorraine and Stanton in California for the heck of it, but not knowing when they were born or if they are still alive, it was hard. Here is a link to where I have listed a bunch of different free people finding aids and tools and sites, if that idea appeals to you. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thecohens/findingaids.html

    3. There were 16 girls born January 16, 1960 in San Bernadino County. California Birth index is still free courtesy of SanFranciuscoGenealogy.com at: http://cabi.mirrorz.com/ Entries all show surname and mother's maiden name. If you find her listed there under her adopted name, then the court order was implemented in the California Birth Index. But I do know that at least some entries for adopted babies remain untouched in the California Birth Index, with original names at birth left intact. I have seen some of those for adopted children in my family tree. This gives you more raw data to work with.

    3. I will comment that if I order a certificate, I much prefer ordering fron the State rather than the county. It takes more like 6 months instead of the two weeks which the county takes, but the copies are better, at least the ones I have gotten. http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/pages/certifiedcopiesofbirthdeathrecords.aspx The state sends color copies with the words "informational, not a valid document to establish identity" stamped across the document in a light red, so the writing underneath is easier to read. The copies I have gotten from Los Angeles County had those words in Black, and the writing underneath was much more difficult to decipher because of that.

    3. Joe described the process perfectly. While some people will insist that the forms have to be notarized, signed in triplicate, personally delivered, and have a DNA sample enclosed, it really is pretty simple.   Fill out the form. Write informational copy across the top. Enclose a SASE. Write a check for $14. (it went up from $12) About two weeks later, look in your mailbox.   I cannot emphasize enough how much valuable info is contained on an actual hard copy DCT.   Joe --- On Thu, 5/3/12, Antunez, Joseph A <joseph.antunez@csun.edu> wrote: From: Antunez, Joseph A <joseph.antunez@csun.edu> Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Are California death certificates available online for 1957?
