I recently found out that another kind soul is doing them for the mailing list. I send a copy of the DCT not only to the original requestor but also to the mailing list so that it can be archived for future reference. That way if anyone in the future is looking for the same information, they might come across the transcription and be that much future ahead in their own research. I was told this by a Rootsweb person. I don't know if anyone has actually searched the archives and hit upon them, but I find it helpful for others to know which DCT's have already been done to save duplication of work. Deborah, Thanks for checking on the Watkins records. I had received a link to a site where I downloaded the images of the death indexes for the surname Watkins and found a couple of candidates for the mystery uncle. I will order the actual death certificates from California to sort out which one is the right one. In terms of the birth records you found, I don't believe he was born in California -- he was most likely born in Chicago and the moved out west with my grandparents ca 1920. I am interested in finding a death record for an older brother of my mother, who died as a child in Alhambra, CA, in the early 1920s. The problem is that, until a couple of years ago, I never knew he even existed and no living relative from that side of the family remembers or even knew his name. My question is: How hard is it to search death records for a period of time, say 1922 to 1924, for Alhambra, for a child born ca 1919, using only the names of parents (Michael Garnett Watkins and Carolyn Watkins)? Are we talking an impossible task, or is there hope? Thanks for any help you may offer.
