I sent for a death certificate on 15 Feb. 2002, giving the name, DOD, Cert. #, and a check for $11.00. The check was cashed on the March 11, 2002. So far I have not received the certificate. Is this timeframe normal? Joy

I have heard it does take long. Some of the factors would be when the death occurred. If it is an early death (1900-1929) it can take awhile. If the normal staff have troubles finding a reference number, then they pass it on to the main guy. I would think that since they cashed your check on 3/11, that they either found it or they will be writting you a letter that they could not find it. The reference number does them no good. It is a state reference number and Los Angeles County has their own reference numbers. You might try following it up with a letter including a copy of your check and original request.
