    1. [CALosAngeles] Unscattered Cremains
    2. Hello LA Members, I need your help. I remember a LONG time ago reading about a pilot in LA who had NOT been scattering cremains in the Ocean, as he was hired to do. But rather they found 100's of boxes of cremains in his garage. Question: Is there a LIST of NAMES of those cremains found? Question: Can you direct me in a direction to find out more. Thank You, Deborah in GA

Something like this happened in *Northern* California in 1997; if something similar happened in SoCal I didn't hear about it, but I was living out of state at the time and mostly heard about it because my family was concerned my grandfather was among those who didn't get scattered. In the Northern California case, the families were supposed to have been contacted by mail, but I don't know if there's a list that's publicly available. Here's a news story about it: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1997/09/06/MN40781.DTL Leslie Devlin * Putting the "there" in Oakland since 1999 * mizd@rawbw.com "[The A's] are like Menudo -- if you reach a certain age, you can't play here any more." -- Billy Beane

    3. Hello everyone, Here is the shortcut to the Senate Bill 1614. http://info.sen.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?bill_number=sb_1614&sess=CUR&house > =B&site=sen I have briefly reviewed the bill, as amended, and the analyses, and I believe that it is important to raise your object to your state representatives in the Senate and the Assembly NOW. If you don't know who they are, for the Assembly go to http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/acsframeset9text.htm and look it up. The full Assembly member directory is at http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/acsframeset7text.htm. The Senate directory is at http://www.sen.ca.gov/~newsen/senators/senators.htp. The committee that will hear this on May 23, is comprised of the following: Senate Appropriations Committee meets every Monday at 9:30 am in Room 4203. JURISDICTION: Bills that are subject to Joint Rule 10.5 and are not referred to the Budget and Fiscal Review Committee. Bills that constitute a state-mandated local program. Members: Senator Dede Alpert (Chair) Senator Jim Battin (Vice Chair) Senator Debra Bowen Senator John Burton Senator Martha Escutia Senator Maurice Johannessen Senator Ross Johnson Senator Betty Karnette Senator Bruce McPherson Senator Kevin Murray Senator Don Perata Senator Charles Poochigian Senator Jackie Speier Addresses & Staff: Staff Director: Karen French Deputy Director: Anne Maitland Consultants: Maureen Brooks, George Cate, Bob Franzoia, Miriam Barcellona Ingeni to, Nora Lynn, and Lisa Matocq Assistant: Sally Ann Romo Phone: (916) 445-3284, Room 2206 This Bill must be STOPPED. While I understand the concern about stolen identities, the loss of information will devastate the genealogical momemtum that has been generated since the Internet became such a valuable tool. In my work, it will prevent us from tracking family members that may be buried in unmarked graves in our historic cemeteries that are still being used without maps or records, placing those graves at risk of obliteration. Send an Email to the Chair of this committee at senator.alpert@sen.ca.gov, under Subject: SB 1614 OPPOSE, addressed as: Honorable Dede Alpert, Chair Senate Appropriations Committee Tell the chair that you oppose SB 1614 because it hurts the majority of the people because of the actions of a few criminals. Explain the value of this information to the millions of genealogists worldwide who are attempting to reconnect with their ancestors of the past. Word your opposition firmly, but politely. Copy of your email to Senator Jackie Speier at senator.speier@sen.ca.gov, and copy both your state senator and assemblyman. If you value the access you've had to birth and death records in California (despite the delays you might have experienced), picture your life knowing you will have to physically go to Sacramento or the recorders office of the county where the record is on file. Senator Speier's bill is a knee jerk reaction to Sept. 11th and allows the actions of a few criminals to take away our freedom to access this information. 1. [CALosAngeles] McCABE McGINTY
    2. First let me apologize for the long first post. I am searching for Jane and Patrick McCabe. Jane's maiden name was McGinty and she was born in 1847 in Dubuque County, Whitewater Twp., Iowa to John and Sarah McGinty. Patrick was born in Ireland in 1846 to Patrick and Catherine Fitzpatrick McCabe. The McCabe family immigrated in 1848 from Cavan, IRE. A three generation descendancy chart is listed below. I have traced Jane and Patrick to Jefferson County, Vasquez Precinct, Colorado in 1880. A descendant of Bernard McCabe has his family bible that Jane McCabe died 14 Mar 1919 in San Diego. Jane and Patrick had two children in the 1880 Census, Sarah b. c. 1872 and Kate b. c. 1878. The California Death index also shows a Margaret McCabe, mother maiden name McGinty, father McCabe, b. 20 Feb 1886 in Colorado, died 27 Oct 1950 in San Francisco. I also located Margaret McCabe on the index for the Golden Gate National Cemetery with a date of birth of 20 Feb 1888, death 27 Oct 1950, Nurse Army Nurse Corps, Plot N150, burial 31 Oct 1950). 1. [CALosAngeles] 213 area code-superior court archvies request
    2. The Cook's
    3. Hello fellow researchers; I sent copies of birth, marriage, and death records to the Los Angeles Superior Court Hall of Records on 1-May-2002 along with a check for $35 to cover postage and copies requesting information concerning my Grandfather. I have the court order date and number and the name of the judge; however, my request was returned as I don't have a Case number. I was given a phone number to call and have tried 3 times since Friday to get the case number. I've talked to 3 different people from archives and they've asked the date which I've given-1957- and I've been asked to hold. This is without my grandfathers name of any other information. I've been put on hold for over 15 minutes all 3 times I've called and I live out of state! I wonder if anyone living near enough to the area code 213 would consider making this call for me I will provide the information if you'll contact me privately. Thank you very much for your time, Marie Cook

    1. [CALosAngeles] 1961 John W. Belt Obituary; Grandson of James Belt; Mt. Olivet Cemetery
    2. Howdy All, I found this obit in a box and thought it might help someone. It was from Bridgeport, Michigan (maybe Saginaw or the St. Joe area too) and was something my grandpa collected when our SHANNON, LOWE, WALLACE, SUGARS, and a few others were being researched. I guess he was a 3rd cousin to grandpa. It is all I have for right now, but if any of this man's relatives contact me I'll see whatever else I can find: BELT, JOHN W. 3864 SOUTH AIRPORT ROAD BRIDGEPORT, MICHIGAN passed away Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital as a result of injures sustained in an accident at his home. He had been employed by the Saginaw Chevrolet Transmission Plant. He married Miss Joan Polzin, August 23, 1947. She survives him. He was a member of St. Christopher's Church, Bridgeport, it's Holy Name Society, the Men's Club and the Saginaw Industrial Executives Club. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters: Ellen Marie, Elizabeth Leanne, and Claire; and two sons James and William, all at home. I was sent information from an old file of my grandfather and his brother that had been enrolled in a Catholic Orphanage in Watsonville for a brief time in the early 1890's. When I called, I was told to send a written request. My reply came back in about three weeks. This was in Dec 2001. I would think they can direct you to the appropriate contact if your information is kept in a different location. 3. Please disregard my request for John Herbert Evans, Cora Florence Evans and Amy Florence Evans DCT lookups. I made them before I knew you needed some time off. I've already ordered the DCTs. Anyone wanting info on these people, can e-mail me at nutcase@charter.net. Hope you get this before you waste your precious time. Thanks again for all your help. Lynn

    3. My daughter was kind enough to venture out to Hanford to the Kings County Recorder's office today with my grandson, Matthew. They did have computers which aide in the search of family records and such, but she was told that she could not view the records unless she purchased the certified copy. This would explain why no one volunteers in Kings County from RAOGK. Thought you all would like to know. Deborah
