I started my BOWNE project in 1995 to find my fathers family. I could not find any info so, I started to gather info on all BOWNE's born all years and all countries. Norm Perks also a BOWNE said he would help. His grandmother was a BOWNE. we bought a Family Tree Maker program and we started to gather info extracting census,birth,marriage,death info,writing to atleast one BOWNE in every state and posting to allied families on rootsweb aqnd posting to every state on rootsweb.  We have a database of 5,000 BOWNE's and 250,000 alied families related to a BOWNE. Family originates in England 1388 and 2 BOWNE families came to the US in 1630's amd were Quakers. A house in Flushing NY built in 1666. still stands info on house http://www.bownehouse.org/ My father died before I could interview him. I now have found over 50 relatives that I have never met. Have you thought to post this on Ancestry? We have rescued old photographs/letters too and after doing as you did, I sent emails to the people whose family I was able to find links to. Just a thought. Another idea would be to upload the picture on the web (picasa or other service) with information as to how to contact you. Los Angeles County Records Center, 222 North Hill Street, Room 212, Los Angeles, CA 90012. My only inquiry to them was on February 29, 2000 for the divorce records of my mother's uncle. I have the receipt for it dated June 6, 2000 (4 month wait then). And the total for that amount (about 30 or so pages) was $31.69. So maybe it was about $1 per page then. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sarah Hathaway BIXBY which was taken at the C. W. Hearn Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. The photograph indicates that she was a member of the Wellesley College Class of 1894. In addition to her name, someone has written "Bix" and "138 N Hill St, LA, CA" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Sarah and her family: Sarah Hathaway BIXBY was born 19 Aug 1871 in CA to parents Llewellyn BIXBY (b. 4 Oct 1825 in Norridgewock, ME) and Mary HATHAWAY (b. 1849 in ME). The couple had three children including, Sarah Hathaway; Anne Locke; and Llewellyn BIXBY, all born between 1871 and 1879. Sarah married twice, first to Arthur Maxson SMITH (b. 1871) who she married on 31 Dec 1896 in Los Angeles Co. CA. Sarah and Arthur had 5 children including, Arthur Maxson; Bradford Bixby; and Llewellyn Bixby; Roger Bixby; and Janet H. SMITH, all born between 1897 and 1909. Sarah's second marriage was to Paul Jordon SMITH.
