Knowing his SS#: 387-12-3088, you can order his original SS Application, which should include his parents' names. That would nail it down. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Loyd G. EBY which was taken at the A. J. Groff Studio in Pomona, California. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Loyd listed as just 3 months old at the time the photograph was taken. I'm hoping to locate someone from this EBY Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Hi, Thank you ever so much for all that information. I need to print it all off and digest it? The Louisa Dorothy Mahala Wright is definitely mine and the Iris has raised some questions. Louisa had a daughter OSRA born 1904 and a daughter Iris born 1906 Your entry puts the Iris dying 29 January 1992 with a mother nee DANIEL and an F, WRIGHT! Her father was a Frank Norman WRIGHT. Surely this has to be our Iris so it is looking as though at least one daughter went to the US. I haven't found a marriage in the UK for Iris but will make another search now I have the name WARD. Iris's mother Louisa was widowed in 1940 and Probate was granted to her in Manchester in 1940. Unfortunately our census records have a hundred year closure on them so the latest one to be viewed is 1911. Louisa must have left this country sometime after 1940. Whether her family were already out there is an unknow factor at the moment. I think your suggestion that I obtain death certificates would be best. I will have to check and see if I can pay by card. In the meantime I will explore the sites you have given me. Many, many thanks. I really do appreciate the time you must have taken. However, your best bet for information about her is her death certificate! Unlike in the UK, our death certificates here include how long the deceased was in the USA as well as in California. This information is, of course, subject to error, depending on who the informant is, but it generally fairly close if not right on the mark. The other extremely valuable piece of information in our death certificates is the address of the informant. It could just be a hospital clerk, but it is often a family member. And, if you are lucky, it may well be one of the children who you say fell off of the radar. And, it includes where the deceased was buried, so that could possibly enable you to contact the cemetery. I do not know about ordering death certificates for California from England, though. Certainly they must be purchased with US dollars. Others will know if you can use a credit card to order from Los Angeles County. I generally prefer to order my certificates from the State of California as the watermark added, at least in my experience, is thinner and obscures less information. But the county is faster than the state. Quick response - busy through tomorrow - the F stands for female - sorry, if you repeat the search at the link for the California Death Index I gave you, you will see the column headings. There are more places to search but I will not have much time (if any) over the next few days to hunt or make more suggestions about Iris Ward, now that it looks like she is your family. Keep us all posted about your progress in the meantime.

Hi, I'm new to the list living in Lancashire in the UK. For several years I have been trying to discover the death of Louisa Dorothy Mahala WRIGHT formerly DANIEL born in Sydenham Kent UK in 1880. She married twice - to a Frank Norman Wright in 1905 in Manchester UK whom she divorced and secondly to a Joseph Chevin again in Manchester in 1933 and was widowed. She then disappeared! A researcher searching the Chevin line found the following: Louisa Dorothy Mahala WRIGHT 3740 Kelton Avenue Los Angeles died 7 November 1953 - Probate London to Arthro Charles Knight - solicitor - 27 February 1954. What was she doing in Los Angeles? A daughter and son have also disappeared off the radar. Did they go to Los Angeles? Osra Norman WRIGHT born 1904 in Manchester Married Leslie Percy L. Beaumont in London 1923 and (2) Robert S. Hills in London in 1937 Vivian George ?Norman WRIGHT born 1907 in Buckinghamshire - no further info. I would be very grateful for any information someone might have or advice as to where I could look for further information. We are currently suffering the tail end of your hurricane Nadine - cold, wet and windy! Regards, Jean Spencer Ramsbottom in Lancashire
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mrs. J. T. (Isabelle BECHTOL) BIGGERSTAFF which was taken at the Williams Studio in Wabash, Indiana. In addition to her names someone has also written "Lee BIGGERSTAFF'S Mother" and "Died 2/12/1894" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following additional information regarding Isabelle and her family as follows: Mary Isabelle BECHTOL was b. 24 Apr 1854 NY or Wabash Co. IN to parents Nelson BECHTOL (b. Aug 1820 in Morgan Co. VA now WV - d. 1903) and Rebecca Ruth TYNER (b. Jun 1835 in Harrison Township, IN - d. 1918). Mary Isabelle was one of 6 children born to this couple including, David; Eugene; George; Milton; William; and Mary Isabelle BECHTOL. Mary Isabelle married James Thomas BIGGERSTAFF MD (b. Sept 1852 in Pickaway Co. OH) on 6 Sept 1876 and together they had 8 children including, James Raymond; Leona or Leone V.; Ruth R.; and Bessie; Earl; Clark; Lee; and Florence BIGGERSTAFF all born between 1876 and 1891. In 1880 the family was living in North Grove, IN. Mary Isabelle BECHTOL BIGGERSTAFF d. 12 Feb 1894. Daughter Florence b. 5 Sept 1891 in Indiana married into the BELL Family and died in Los Angeles, CA on 8 Jul 1990. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Warren Township, IN: in the house of Joseph & Eva BOWMAN Lee BIGGERSTAFF, age 10, born Sept 1889, a Servant in House, born IN, parents born OH/IN, at School 1920 census of Daste, MT: Lee BIGGERSTAFF, age 30, born IN, parents born OH/IN, a Farmer Josphine BIGGERSTAFF, wife, age 26, born NE, parents born Germany Betty BIGGERSTAFF, dau, age 1 year + 8 months, born MT I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Julia TAYLOR BIDLEMAN CARLING which was taken at the C. L. Obst Studio in Pittsfield, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Julia appearing to be in her 30's at the time. In addition to her name and various surnames, someone has also written the following notes on the back of this photograph - "Aunt" "Mama's Sister" and "Mother of Willie & Epley BIDLEMAN and Elsie CARLING VANDERBILT and Philip Taylor CARLING". Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Julia and her family as follows: Julia's son William James BIDLEMAN was b. 16 Mar 1874 and registered for the draft in 1917/1918 while living in Montgomery Co. MO. His occupation at the time was Mine Supervisor at the Wellsville Fire Brick Co. Julia's daughter Elsie Irene CARLING was b. 22 Mar 1888 or 1889 in Jersey City, NJ, her father was John A. CARLING (b.1843 in Ireland) with John noted as having 10 children including Samuel; Laura; Nome; Mary E.; Florence; Margaret; Charles; Albert; Edward; Elsie Irene; and Philip Taylor CARLING, all born between 1867 and 1893. I believe that only Elsie and Philip were children of Julia and the others were born to a different Mother. Elsie married Franklin VANDERBILT (1890-1960) and together they had two children including, Margaret May VANDERBILT b. 1917. Elsie died Mar 1984 in Bronxville, NY. Julia's son Philip Taylor CARLING was b. 23 Oct 1893 in NJ and d. 19 Aug 1941 and is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, CA. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as that of Syblle MCCLELLAND daughter of Horace MCCLELLAND. The photograph was taken at the Post Studio in Denver, Colorado, likely sometime in the early 1900's with Syblle appearing to be about 4-5 years old. There is another unidentified girl in the photograph who appears to be about 3 years old. In addition someone has also written "niece of J. S. MCCLELLAND on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Sybil MCCLELLAND and her family as follows: Sybil MCCLELLAND was b. 3 or 30 Jul 1895 in Table Rock, CO to parents John Horace MCCLELLAND (b. 14 Dec 1865 in PA-1942) and Emeline Jane or Jane Emiline or Emma Jane METCALF (b. 7 Jul 1867 in Greenville, IL-d. 2 Jan 1898 in Fort Collins, CO). Sybil was one of four children born to this couple including, Esther; Homer Elbert; Sybil; and Eulalia MCCLELLAND all born between 1890 and 1897 in Colorado. Sybil married John H. MATTSEN (b. 11 Dec 1890 in WI-d. 27 Oct 1980 in Gardena, CA) in Los Angeles, CA sometime prior to 1944. Sybil died in Torrance, CA on 15 Oct 1962. I am hoping to locate someone from this MCCLELLAND Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
