    1. [CALosAngeles] Meaning numbers in death index 1905-1929
    2. Mary Inglis Sims
    3. Kathy; You are correct. In the examples shown by sender, the first number does indeed mean whether death was in years, months, days. And in the 3 deaths listed, the number (1) means the persons were ___ years of age at death. My posted message was wrong about that first number (1) which does indeed mean year in this index. The rest of my reply agrees with yours. The sender of the original question typed error (see below) for information about Adelaide's death which was sent as Adelaide dying 2-1-26. . The death index shows: Adelaide A TOBEY 1 65 70 6-13-12 12 17911 Mary : > Tobey, Adelaide 1-65 70 2-1-26 - 12 17911 > Tobey, Don 1-58 70 4-9-15 -15 1155? couldn't read last number > Metz, Mettie 1-57 70 3-8-22 - 22 -11520 1 = Year , 2 = months 3 =days

    1. [CALosAngeles] Tony LEWIS, Thank you Loretta!!
    2. The Cook's
    3. Dear Loretta, Funny you should write to the list as I was looking for your email address in my saved emails to THANK YOU for helping me so much with making all of those calls concerning my grandfather, Tony LEWIS. I just this afternoon got the transcriptions from the Superior Court and have gone thru them once and letting that sink in a little before I read it again and then start writing to various lists with what it contains. Without your help I would never have known my own grandfather as I do now after reading some of his own words. One comment he made that you might enjoy.. He was asked during his trial if he had ever tried to commit suicide; "At this point the defendant laughed and said, "No, not me. This is too beautiful a country to do a thing like that. California is a great place, I think a lot of it." I can never repay you Loretta for the kindness you showed in taking the time from your schedule to call over and over sometimes and to more than one office in helping me track down the transcriptions. With all of my heart, Thanks. 2. The 19/70 on the Vital Search California Death Index are the County Codes for Los Angeles. If you go to the page and scroll down to the bottom there is a County Code Key Table that tells what the codes are for each county. Took me a while to figure it out when I first began using it. Kathy
