    3. Linda, DCT's are super easy to get in LA County.  They are only $14 and arrive in about 2 weeks.  You can get the form at www.lavote.org.  Make sure to write "Informational Copy Only" which does not require you to get it notarized or anything. Also include a SASE to make it quicker.   Joe From: PAT MILLER <pgmiller@flash.net> To: "calosang@rootsweb.com" <calosang@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 30, 2013 3:24 PM Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Marriage and Death Records I found this on ancestry.com; is ss for a Paul Young. To answer your question .... oh yes, I've been ALL over the Family Search website, as well as having the family tree on Ancestry.com. I've not only searched "California, County Marriages, 1850-1952" but also the "California, Marriages, 1850-1945", both on Family Search. I've also looked at newspaper archive sites. I've searched 60 ways to Sunday, trying different avenues to get to that information, all to no avail. Which is why I've come here (it was suggested to me by a fellow genealogist). The names in my original post (Hannah Maye Robertson and John Laurencelle) are correct. He never went by Lawrence or any other variant of Laurencelle. If it would be of any use, Hannah Maye's parents were Elmer Elsworth Delose Robertson and Mary Alice Duncan. John's parents were Edmond Alphonse Laurencelle and Marie Georgiana Bernier. Thanks again for responding. I appreciate it. Shelley

    1. [CALOSANG] ISO: 1917-ish marriage document for Hannah Maye Robertson & John Laurencelle
    2. Shelley Rodgers
    3. Hannah Maye Robertson was born on July 21, 1895 in Kansas. By 1900, the family had relocated to San Bernardino, CA John Laurencelle (aka John Russell) was born on Sept 1, 1887 in Montreal, Canada. In the late 1880's, his family had emigrated to the US to Ohio. By the mid-teens, he was living in Los Angeles county, most likely Long Beach. On March 27, 1916, he became a naturalized US citizen (the papers were filed in Los Angeles county). In 1917, he registered for the World War I draft in Vallejo, CA, where he listed himself as single. (regarding the surnames ... the family name of Laurencelle was tentatively changed to Russell by 1900 (as shown by the 1900 census), so the family would better be able to assimilate into US society, as they thought Laurencelle sounded too foreign. However, by 1910, most of the family members reverted to Laurencelle. John's naturalization papers of 1916 show him as John Laurencelle AKA John Russell ... but he never actually used the Russell surname.) I *believe* they were married in 1917 (or thereabouts). They were definitely married by March 1919, as that is when their first (twin) children were born. At that time, they were living in Vallejo, CA (and remained there until both of their deaths). I have been to the Solano county recorders office (the county for Vallejo, CA) and they very carefully looked at their records for an expanded timeframe ... 1900 through 1923 ... and there is no record of Hannah & John being married in Solano county. I was so disappointed; I was sure they had been married there. It occurred to me that perhaps they were actually married in Long Beach, which is where Hannah was living in 1917. I can't find any marriage information online for marriage documents for Long Beach/Los Angeles county for this timeframe. Would someone (some angel!) be willing to do some searching for me? My bottom line plan is to mail away for the document, but I'd rather not do that, if I don't need to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Shelley Rodgers

    3. Lora:  I haven't found where these fit into my family yet, but will keep them. I have found about 126 different spellings for the family, so they may fit in some where. I do have some family from Ohio, but I think they were born in NY. I will find them and send them to you later. The most used spellings are FORSHAY, FORSHEE and FOSHAY.   Thanks for your help.   Bill Forshay - San Antonio, TX >________________________________ > From: "LEHJDH211@aol.com" <LEHJDH211@aol.com> >To: calosang@rootsweb.com >Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2013 1:13 PM >Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] (no subject) > > >Hi Bill, I hope you found what you were looking for.  I am curious  about >this line.  My Forshey relatives are from the same area with most  in/near >Gallia County, Ohio.  If this sounds like it might related to your  Forshay >line, please e-mail me.  _lehjdh211@aol.com_ (mailto:lehjdh211@aol.com) .  >Thanks, Lora. > > >In a message dated 8/19/2013 7:11:42 P.M. 3. Hi,   I appreciate that this  isn't a Los Angeles query but I am wondering if anyone has access to the above.  I don't have Worldwide access to Ancestry as I have virtually no research in the USA.  It seems we weren't a particularly adventurous family staying more or less rooted in Lancashire UK.   Clarence Hugh IDDON is listed on the above  list as leaving the UK.;  He was in the Merchant Navy - a Chief Engineer.  He is on the Commonwealth War Graves site as dying on the 21 March 1942 aged  49.  It would appear that the ship he was on at the time - SS Athelviscount - was lost at sea.  I'm wondering if this was the journey he was on when he lost his life.   Thank you,   Jean Spencer Ramsbottom Lancashire

    3. Jean, The passenger & crew list that you referenced at Ancestry.com is for the Vessel Athelviscount’s arrival at “Hawaiian Port” from Gensan Korea on April 11, 1938. He is listed on the manifest as Chief Engineer. His length of service at sea is listed as 21 years. The next image is a statement saying that the ship arrived in Hilo on April 17, 1938 and was expected to sail for Hull, England, on April 19, 1938 via the Panama Canal. I did a quick internet search and, according to the links below, the Athelviscount was hit and damaged by a German U-boat (U-202, Hans-Heinz Linder) on March 22, 1942. Perhaps they crossed the International Date Line which would account for the discrepancy in the date. http://uboat.net/allies/merchants/search.php http://www.uboat.net/allies/merchants/crews/listing.html?country=British http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/archive/index.php?t-3603.html There is also an image on Ancestry of an “England and Wales National Probate Calendar” that lists Mr. Iddon under “Wills and Administrations, 1942”. It says: IDDON, Clarence Hugh of 61 Manor-road Crosby Lancashire died 21 March 1942 at sea Administration Liverpool 22 September to May Iddon Widow. Effects £712 15s.
