    1. [CALOSANG] BROCKETT Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the BROCKETT Family of Idaho including one of Ella BROKETT with Avo CUSHMAN which was taken at the Van Graven Studio in Nampa, ID in 1903. I believe that this is Ella E. JONES BROCKETT. The second photograph is of Ella's sons Dale & Claire BROCKETT taken at the same studio in 1905, the year that Ella died. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Ella Eliza JONES was b. 9 Jun 1873 or 1875 in Raymond, IL and married Irving Townsend BROCKETT (born 20 Jul 1869 in Brownsville, IL - d. 1953) on 16 Apr 1895 in Wayne Co. IL. The couple had two sons, Dale and Claire BROCKETT. Ella died 25 Apr 1905 and is buried in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, ID. Avo or Ava R. WINTERSTEIN was b. 1 Jul 1874, she married Charles I. BROCKETT b. 1924, and Claire Irving BROCKETT b. 13 Aug 1925, both born in Santa Ana, CA. Dale died 13 Jun 1957 in Orange County CA and is buried in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA Claire Baldridge BROCKETT was b. 23 Nov 1897 in Pocatella, ID and married twice, first to Helen Marie TORESON (b. 5 Aug 1909 in MT) in about 1925, and second to Lenore A. (b. 17 Jul 1908 in IL) sometime later. It does not appear that Claire had any children. Claire died 16 Feb 1966 in San Diego, CA and is buried in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. 1. [CALOSANG] RUSH MESSAGE - Casting Call for Southern California Genealogists
    2. Paula Hinkel
    3. Please forgive any cross-posting. We received a call from a representative of a casting company that is looking for genealogists to appear in a commercial. Specifically, they are looking for Ancestry.com customers that have a compelling family story to tell that involves the use of Ancestry.com or AncestryDNA. They apologize for the insanely short notice ... auditions are Monday and Tuesday, November 4 and 5 in Glendale. People who respond through this message will receive priority. This is for a commercial and is a paid gig. They are particularly interested in younger genealogists (20s - 30s - 40s) but will take the best story regardless of age. Contact ASAP and mention that you heard from Paula of the Southern California Genealogical Society. Josh Temple Dan Bell Casting in Los Angeles 818-844-8900 office 619-471-5888 mobile (preferred)

    2. Mike YEGWART
    3. Folks, Apologies for tardiness of my reply caused by a family medical emergency. Brilliant response. Thank you all very much. I did look at CA resources before I posted but couldn't find the death certificate. However, as usual, another query arises. From the copy of the 1930 census the head of household was Stanley CLARKE, with an 'E'. His mother-in-law was CLARK, without an 'E'. Stanley and wife, Jean, appear to have landed in the USA in 1919 and 1920 respectively. Using the English FreeBMD resource (http://www.freebmd.org.uk/) they were not married over here. Please could someone look for a marriage. Just re-read your very helpful census headings and they appeared to marry in 1922. 1. [CALOSANG] Gertrude CLARK, nee HANDS
    2. Mike YEGWART
    3. Hi Folks, I'm writing from across the big pond. The Atlantic one. One on my HANDS has escaped. Gertrude Isabella HANDS was born in 1863 in the village of Kings Norton, Worcestershire. She was there with her husband Hunter CLARK in the 1911 English census. He seems to have died two counties away in Herefordshire in 1914. 1926 saw Gertrude sailing from England to California. Although she was listed as living in Southport, Lancashire, which is several counties northwards, her last official country of residence was recorded as Foreign Countries. That means not England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Irish free State or the British Empire. So could be anywhere else. She died August 2nd 1934 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles, CA. Source: English probate records. I would be most grateful for any information at all: home address, obituary, cemetery, reason for travelling. Absolutely anything to fill in the blanks. 3. Joe, I just tried the link that you provided and it is incorrect. It should be www.lavote.net, not .org. I am only sending this so anyone else who may try will get to the page. Using .org, .com, .net, .edu and .gov gets confusing often times! Here is a direct link to the vital records. http://www.lavote.net/Recorder/BDM_Records.cfm Gail ~ Gail Schinnerer Jorgensen ~ On Fri, Aug 30, 2013 at 5:38 PM, Joe Walker <joe_walker_2000@yahoo.com>wrote: > Linda, > DCT's are super easy to get in LA County. 3. Notables.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvary_Cemetery,_East_Los_Angeles My friends and I at around age 11 or 12, would climb the fence at night, run around in there, hide behind tombstones, jump out and try to scare each other. So much fun. As Mom used to say: "Small minds are easily amused."

    3. Joe, Thank you for this information. I applied for Belva's death record at the state level and waited for 9 months but never received anything. Finally submitted it again and got it a few months later. Going the county route seems much better. Make sure to write "Informational Copy Only" which does not require you to get it notarized or anything. Also include a SASE to make it quicker. > > Joe > > From: PAT MILLER <pgmiller@flash.net> > To: "calosang@rootsweb.com" <calosang@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, August 30, 2013 3:24 PM > Subject: Re: [CALOSANG] Marriage and Death Records > > > I found this on ancestry.com; is ss for a Paul Young. 3. Pat, I think it is him but I am not certain. My mother's SS death record has the same zip code but I don't know the area that covers. Do I need to write for a CA death certificate or are there other records for Los Angeles County that might give the same info. It took several months to get my mother's when I ordered it last year. I should explain that Belva Mae Glass Drane Young was my biological mother. My adoption records were opened in 1979. I am trying to find additional info on her death for medical reasons. Thank you so much for your response! I am willing to pay for research to be done there in Los Angeles. 3. Linda: The California Death Index (1940-1997) lists the same Paul Young below (social security numbers match), however the birth date listed is 12 July 1912 and the death date 24 June, 1979. It also states that he was born in China. I'll send this to you in a separate email.
