    1. Re: [CALOSANG] CALOSANG Digest, Vol 3, Issue 36
    2. The death information on the Social Security Index is normally provided by the person filling out the form for death benfits. I have found several errors in the benefit request completed for some of my relatives. Ofter the person filling out the forms are inlaws or someone designated to manage the application process for death benefits. While we assume a person registering would know their own birthdate, but I have found Social Security data and the certificate of birth are not the same information. Clerical errors? Poor memory? Most of the Social Seurity data is correct, but they are not perfect. When we find discrepencies, we need to seek other records to verify if the information is correct or an error exist. Census data, school records, city directories, and where possible interiews other relatives or friends. 2. subject: ETHEL GERTRUDE (ABERCROMBIE) FELL STEWART BROWN, b. Bucks County, PA, June 11, 1880. She is not to be found in the 1940- CA death index: She was last known to be living in Hollywood, CA in 1939 at the time of her father's death. Trying to find out what became of her and her first child ROBERT GRATZ FELL, JR., from her first marriage. It is believed he was also living with his mother in Hollywood. ETHEL was my 2nd cousin, 3 times removed. Would anyone on this list have any research ideas for finding out what became of her? Here is an excerpt from her father's listing in BURKE's. 2. Wonder if the address of last residence is where the burial benefit is mailed...? Seems like I'd read that at one time. Linda In a message dated 3/1/2008 12:24:41 P.M. I don't know how Social Security gets it's information; it very clearly states that she died in Honolulu on her death certificate and my sister gave Social Security all the informtion (including a copy of the death cert) when she notified them. 3. I think the California death index I was looking at was mistranscribed. I found her on http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca/_vitals/cadeygen.htm with a death date of 17 March, 1989 which matches her SSDI death date. 3. Thanks for the information Jeanne. When both documents show different information, it's hard to know which one to believe unless I can find other information to use as a clue. Maybe I'll be lucky and find her on an on-line cemetery with burials listed. That would certainly help to narrow down a death date. 3. Thanks for the information and all of your suggestions. I was able to fine Leontine Possienne (and surname variations) on the following census. 1900 age 6 (born about 1894) 1910 age 17 (born about 1893) 1920 (can't find her) 1930 age 33 (born about 1897) As you can see, she lost a few years in 1930. Her husband was younger so that could have something to do with it. I might have to look into purchasing a death cert. so I can find out when and where she was buried and then carry on from there.
