These people are hard to find and the remaining hill folks seem reluctant to talk. Do you have anything tying these people to yours? If so I would much appreciate you letting me know. I was never really happy with the facilities that Family Tree Maker gave me and thus struck out on my own. It is split up into different surnames. The surnames of interest to this area include: CALLOWAY, KILBY, ROTEN, HOLBROOK, and all the associated surnames that married into these families. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts. I am also looking for any other photos or documents that you might have out there that I can add. The address is: "http://www.zianet.com/schulthe/home.htm" As always, let me know any corrections, additions, deletions, or any other comments you may have. Thanks, Chris..... 1. Re: Two Josephs
    2. SHERRILL U WILLIAMS
    3. Chris, Everyone is entitled to his own beliefs on any matter. It matters not to me that you wish to head your Callaway chart with Two Josephs. You may be correct. I just say, there is no proof. There is no proof, no doubt, because of loss of records in those two early counties, Essex and Caroline Co's, VA. The serious loss of Caroline County records is very damaging to our Callaway research. The truth may never be known. Everyone must make his own choice as to whether there were two Josephs at the top of this Callaway lineage. We made our decision, after a long period of research, and evaluation of it, that the evidence was lacking to support the "Two Josephs" idea. We certainly felt that Elijah Callaway's letter to Draper was not the credible "proof" we needed. Anything is possible. It could be that there were "Two Josephs," and Elijah had heard this story. But, perhaps the "first" Joseph never came to America. It is even possible that there were "Three Josephs." But this research is not complete, and we may never be able to find proof of our English heritage. We do continue to try. So, gang, each of you be your own judge of how many JOSEPHS to put at the top of your charts. It is a personal matter. I am currently more interested in where the name "Catherine" came from as a wife of one of the Josephs. That is of importance. Is there a record, or source, for that information? If so, we should follow up on it. Please share this with us. To all of you who have asked questions, I am working on your answers. Please be patient. Sometimes I do have another "small life" that intrudes upon my "Callaway play." You "ladies" will understand; some things we can just never retire from. Also, there was a time when I carried all this information in my head. However, due to "information overload," or maybe even "dying brain cells," some of it has slipped away. But, if we have the information in the files, I will find it and eventually pass it on to you. "Nuff said" on Two Josephs......OK? Sherrill Distribution: To: <Name Not Given> [email protected]

    2. Chris Schultheis
    3. Are there any descendants of Samuel Calloway lurking out there? Here is what I know. Samuel is the son of Francis Calloway and Frances Unknown (thats right a two Frankey's). He was born abt 1755 in Caroline Co, VA and died 30 Jan 1836 in Surry Co, NC. He married a Mary Unknown. They had 6 known children: ***Feree (1782-1865) md Hannah Walker (md 1803 in Surry Co, NC) James (1784-1866) md Susan Cockerham Nancy (1786-1845) md Joel Lackey Samuel (1791-????) md Elizabeth Rachel Unknown Isaac (1798-????) md Catherine Foote John (1800-????) I don't know if he married or what *** Note: This is my line. Anybody who has anything on the above people, I would love to hear from you. Chris.....

    2. Chris Schultheis
    3. Hi Sherrill, Without wanting to start a melee or major disagreement, I would like to just say that I stand by what I said in my earlier post about two Josephs. That was that until I have proof against I have no reason not to believe. Thats not to say that you are right/wrong, but by the same token thats not to say that I am right/wrong. As a matter of fact, the information you provide below tends to support the theory of two Josephs. So, I see nothing wrong with going with that supposition (you notice I did not say fact), until it can be proven different. My experience with fellow genealogist is that we all seem to fall into two seperate catagories when it comes to sourcing, documentation, and the ever search for "proof". The first category is what you fall into. That is those that must have documented, beyond a shadow of a doubt proof. I fall into the second category. That is those that believe what they are told until they can prove or disprove. There is nothing wrong with either group. IN FACT, we probably need one another. Chris Schultheis.....
