    1. CALLAWAY FAMILY ASSOCIATION JOURNAL
    2. Could someone tell me if there is a website where one can read this journal on-line? Or failing that, is there a website where the contents of each journal are listed and one can order copies of certain articles from certain journals? I hate to have to subscribe to this journal as I understand it is rather expensive and my Callaway connection is way back when William Callaway, son of Peter the immigrant, married Givan Caldwell. I am particularly interested in the ancetry of Peter Callaway. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards Phyllis in Louisiana

    1. Callaway-Clayton connection
    2. Leota Hosman
    3. I am related to Claytons on both sides-Mom maiden name was Clayton and Dad of course is Clayton. We have Dad's side thru Charles Collier Clayton and Nancy Toney -but we can't connect Mother's family. It's interesting that the given names are so similar and that they are more Callaway than any other link. Names such as Abner, Larkin S.,Pinckney, Flanders can't be accidental. I see these names back in Daniel Boone whose daughter married a Flanders Callaway and their children. Any with any help would be appreciated as I have just begun this gen. search.

    1. Callaway info from Ashe, Alleghany and Grayson
    2. Carole Conrad
    3. I checked some info for one of our list members and thought I would put the response up for all. She was trying to link modern day (after 1900) Callaways to those 1-2 hundred years before in the south. She said her folks had been in Ky. Mich, Indiana. If they came thru Va./N.C. I wanted to pass the only info I found in the Grayson, Ashe and Alleghany Counties Hertitage Books. >From the ASHE Book: Before the Rev.War, Thomas Calloway (1700-1800 approx.) moved his family to Ashe, NC. He was a Capt of the Colonial Troops in the French and Indian War. on the New River between Beaver and Obid's Creeks. Daniel Boone had a hunting lodge supposedly nearby. In 1780, Boone gave Calloway a gift of a stone. Calloway was about 80 and Boone about 46. Calloway had this stone used as a Tombstone. It still stands at the old Calloway Cemetery at Highway 163 near the New River Bridge in Ashe County, NC. Calloway did try to volunteer for the Kings Mountain Rev War battle but was deemed too old. Has anyone documented this cemetery and does anyone have a list of his relatives? The naming pattern we look for is: Richard, Neal, Ann, Ruth, Glenn, Flora and David Ettabelle. Also, any lore of a cherokee wife or mother? Thanks Carole in NY City _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Chris Schultheis
    3. Greetings All, In about 10 days I will be leaving for Saudi Arabia until around Thanksgiving. About 45 days after that I will be retiring from the Air Force after 20 pretty good years. I figure at the age of 38 it is now or never to make the big leap to the civilian life. I am not being forced out but making a conscious choice. I figure that I eventually have to give up all the security of the military life and I don't want to be too old when I make that jump. At least no more moving every 3-4 years (at least I hope not). We will be settling in the North Georgia area to start with. My mom lives there in a nice big house that we will temporarily move into. I will then commence the job search. So, if you know of any good job opportunities, please send them my way. I have a degree in Business Administration and Logistics Mangement and I worked in the Supply career field while in the military. I also love computers and have assembled my own and helped many others fix theirs, so anything in those related areas would be fine (I say all this toungue firmly entrenched in cheek). As a result of all these actions, I will be going off line for quite some time. When I come back from Saudi I will not be resubscribing to all my mail lists but will wait until I get settled into a more permanent household. That could be as much as 9-12 months from now. My web site will stay up until the end of this year but then I will have to drop it as well because I will be moving and not have an ISP to load it on. My wife will be monitoring my e-mail but after that I will only be using my hotmail account. All of you have been wonderful. Thank you for letting me "steal" your genealogy from you and hopefully you have been able to "steal" some from me. I will saving all your e-mail addresses and will probably send something like this out again in Decemeber before we finally move. I apoligize if some of you get this twice as a result of a personal e-mail and a mail list e-mail. I have been active on many lists and want to touch all the bases to make sure the word gets out. So long, take care, and good luck. Chris..... Chris Schultheis e-mail: [email protected] home page: http://www.zianet.com/schulthe/home.htm

    1. ANN CALLAWAY/Dad named Joe? 1700s Va married Sturgill
    2. Carole Conrad
    3. > I am new to the list. > > I am researching Ann Callaway. Her father may be Joseph. She had a brother Thomas at least. She married James Stodghill/Sturgell/Sturgill. He was born in 1725 and died 1803 so she would be the same time period. They were from Essex Co. Va. and died in Alleghany county, NC. This James is the one that changed the spelling to Sturgill. 1765 they moved to Grayson county Va and 1782 received the current Alleghany Co, NC land grant (was Montgomery Co, Va.) They had 8 kids: Francis, Ambrose, Mary, Ruth, james, John, Docia, lewis. 3. I am seeking information on my line of Calaways who were from South Carolina, probably Picken's District. Her mother's name was Sucen or Susan (maiden surname unknown). I'm hoping to find the father and husband's name of Mary Ann and Susan. Anyone who might have information on this branch of Calaways please contact me. Many Thank's Jane A. Hawkins [email protected]

    3. We are referring to the two "colonial" Callaway immigrants to America. We know about your Samuel H. Callaway - and a number of other Callaways (var. sp.) who came to US at later dates. Some came direct from UK, and others via Canada. But, the question we were dealing with was about the "colonial" immigrants. Sherrill -----Original Message----- From: Robert K.
