This is the lady I'm having trouble finding. This is what I know about her. I got this information from a Russell Book that was written by Ruby White. If anyone can share some like on this lady please help me. We know that she was born around 1778 in Virginia. and died in Tennessee. William Madison Russell, son of William and Rhoda Susan Russell, was born around 1775 and died Feb 3, 1842, in Bedford co., Tennessee. He married Martha, daughter of Charles Callaway and wife Judith Early Pate Callaway of Bedford and Campbell Co., Virginia. She died Oct 10, 1841 and is buried in the Russell family cemetery near Richmond, Tennessee. She was a sister of Joel Callaway of Giles co., Tennessee, who had been in Georgia for a time before Tennessee. If you know this family Please help me. Sincerely Donna granny01@uci.net

Now Old Albemarle County Perquimans Precinct North Carolina Births, Marriages, Deaths, and Flesh Marks 1659-1820 list Rachel Wyatt's birth as 28/Feb/1687 but perhaps this is not correct. She may have been born in 1678 and not 87. WInslow's History of Perquimans County does not list Rachel Callaway, but Caleb's will is the only thing that brings up the fact she was his daughter. Possibly she was in her teens at the time of the will. Her daughter Elizabeth Oates is also mentioned in his will as his granddaughter.

Specifically we are looking for the parents and other ancestors of Samuel Callaway Richardson born about 1822 in Tennessee. Census records indicate his father was born in North Carolina and mother was born in Tennessee. Thus far effort searching for Richardson’s has had negative results. Callaway/Calloway may have been the maiden name of a mother or grandmother. Samuel Callaway’s wife was Eliza A. Blake. They were married in Madison Co. Kentucky in 1842. In 1850 they were in Jefferson Co. Indiana and they, along with their five sons, moved to St. Clair Co. Missouri after the Civil War. Three of the sons (Alexander M., John A. and William D.) enlisted and served in Indiana regiments during the Civil war. Dean

Response to Lynn Petre: Henry Callaway of Knox Co., MO was a son of Abraham Callaway who died, as an ancient man, in Harrison Co., KY. Abraham was from Sussex Co., DE. Unfortunately his exact link to the larger Callaway clan has not been discovered, but there are records of him in DE in association with the known Callaway lines. Sherrill U. Williams, Genealogist, The Callaway Family Association, Inc.

I'm seeking spouse and parents and additional children of Edward Callaway, father of Joshua and Susan Callaway. Joshua was a preacher, probably Baptist? Susan (1819?-1880) married David Herbert Moore. Their children were Elizabeth Jane (Lizzie) Moore and K. P. Moore. Lizzie married Rev. Adiel Lumpkin Moncrief, a Baptist preacher, in Monroe Co. GA in 1856, and these last two were parents of 8 children. I have information on their descendants, but need Callaway information. Apparently there were several Callaways in this line who were ministers. Can anyone connect with this line? Margaret

Hi to all K400s, Here is the answer to the Kellaway Quiz question. Cramlington in Northumberland (now called Northumbria) in the far North of England is based on coal mines. In 1865 there was a bitter strike which went on for many weeks. The mine owners evicted most of the strikers and their families from their houses. In December 1865, miners from Cornwall and Devon, many of them with their families, were brought, probably by train, to Cramlington to work in the mines. They were given the houses vacated by the locals who dispersed to other places of work. There were 428 Wessex miners altogether. James would have been eleven years old at the time of the strike. Young children were, as you know, employed in hazardous work, if not mining then perhaps in leading ponies or in operating ventilation systems. I do not know exactly when James moved. His father, John Kellaway (b.1828), an engineer in the Royal Navy, is reported to have been killed in HMS Gibraltar in 1860, so it is likely that James was fatherless, and that the family was impoverished. Under such circumstances it is understandable if James joined the move to the north. In 1876 James married a local girl Grace Stanford Smith. They later migrated to the USA. If you wish to read the fascinating story of the strike (with a little more information about the Wessex migrants) see http://www.swinhope.demon.co.uk/genuki/NBL/Cramlington/Strike.html And there is some information about members of the Pomeroy family who went North from Cornwall on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/neengland1.htm This suggests that some Wessex people were shocked to find that they were expected to strike-break, and accepted a union subsidy to return home. There are other interesting social sidelines. Finally, please see http://members.tripod.co.uk/dreycott/phillack.htm for a genealogical chart which shows James. (It's a bit slow to download.) I would appreciate any criticism or help with this story. None of the answers mentioned the strike. The best answer was received from David Scott. David lives in Swindon which is not very far from Bristol. He might actually make it to collect his prize at the Kellaway Arms! There were also a couple of witty ones. If you wish to see them look at http://members.tripod.co.uk/dreycott/answers.htm My thanks also to Brian Pears of NORTHUMBERLAND-L@Rootsweb.com for sorting me out about Cramlington. Perhaps we'll do another quiz some time soon. Bill
