Johanna used the names, Marshall Calloway and Solomon Sanders for two of her sons.

Calloway (III) was a son of Thomas Callaway, Jr. and wife Jude. Jude was NOT Jude Moffat. That is erroneous information someone put out many years ago. Many people have searched in VA and NC records for the surname of Jude, but the surname has never been found. Thomas Callaway, Jr. died in 1819 in Knox Co., TN and had a will.

You have initials for the two daughters ("I" and "J") born in 1775 and 1776 of Thomas and Judea. All other trees that I've seen just had "daughter." Where did you find those? It they are correct, I guess I can also eleminate Thomas as a possible father for Mourning m. Solomon Baker. James is interesting!

He is living with Betsy Callaway in the 1850 Watauga County census. Can not be her brother as her father died prior to 1810 but he could be a nephew. I also show a Marshall Callaway age 22 in the 1850 census for Watauga Cty but he is living with a Hodges family. Thus there were two of them in Watauga Cty in 1850 and one was 31-32 and that other 22. You mentioned Thomas and Judea: Note they have a son with Marshall as a middle name and he may have been called Marshall. He may have had a son named Marshall who was living with the Hodges (note also that James Marshall's sister married a Hodges) 1 Thomas II Callaway 1753 - 1819 . +Judea Ann Moffitt 1756 - 1823 ........ 2 John Farrar Callaway 1773 - 1848 ............ +Sarah Hardin ........ 2 I. Re: James of 1746. It is just that nothing is found on him until after his marriage to Jane/Jain whoever. He always lived next door to Elijah Callaway and,.sometimes by Richard, and Jane remained next door to Elijah long after James was gone before 1810. He is not in any of the jury records etc as the other Callaways seemed to be. In 1787, his father and three brothers were in the Wilkes Cty tax list but no James. He was in a church by 1790 (Three Forks Baptist)there. In the 1790 census, he is listed in Wilkes (now Watauga Cty) NC with two white females so may have been married with one young daughter I do not have the name of. Thus from 1746 to 1790 (44 years), he is a lost soul. I am wondering if he wasn't hurt in the Revolutionary War. He has been a REAL enigma for me. I can't vouch for the accuracy of all this - please check it out. Audrey

Did you mean something was wrong with him or the information you have about him? With his being born in 1746, one might guess that there could have been an earlier wife? I'm actually looking for sons of Thomas with unidentified daughters born between 1774 - 1784. Thomas m. to Jude has two the right age and also has a Marshall name used (which is significant in the line I'm searching). If James' children were all born just before and after 1800, I can eliminate him. There is a Marshall Callaway/Calloway in Land Records of Ashe Co. NC - Book U - that's why I asked if 1746 James could have been James Calloway like his nephew. Have you ever run across Sanders Calloway (land grant in Ashe Co. in 1802)?
