This recently published family history merits attention. It is subtitled "the history and tales of the Lorn and Fortingall families" -- Blacks, MacIntyres, McCowans, Livingstones, MacDougalls, Campbells, Colquhouns, McInnes, MacGregors, Sinclairs, McKechnies, McDiarmid, Camerons, Macdonalds, Cummings, Macfarlanes. The parishes of the story are: in Perthshire, Fortingall; in Argyllshire, Kilmore and Kilbride, Kilninver, Kilbrandon and Kilchatton, Kilmartin. The text flows easily, in and out of history and the childhood memories of the author, varied with references to some ups and downs of the genealogical research. There are extracts from historical documents: a school register, muster rolls, an 1837 directory, and estate records, to mention a few. This is a very pleasant way to absorb history, and acquire some useful knowledge about sources. There are pedigree charts, a glossary, and an interesting bibliography. Previously published by Julia M. Case and Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG, Missing Links, Vol. 5, No. 3, 19 January 2000. RootsWeb: <http://www.rootsweb.com/>
