    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. I'm going to make "the big sweep" through my PML matches file for Colquhouns tonight, and just list the lists where there were Colquhouns or Colhouns, etc. mentioned or discussed. If you are interested, you can hop over to the Isearch Archive, type in the list name (include the -L), and run a search for Colquhoun. Don't forget those alternate spellings! 1. [CALHOUN] Alexander William Calhoun, b. Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN
    2. tony
    3. Looking for more family of Alexander William or Williamson Calhoun, b. abt 1846 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. son of Dr. Robert C.B. Calhoun & Eliza Goodman. William Calhoun m. Rachael Hoffman 44-27-1880 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. As much as I can tell, William and Rachael moved to Fannin Co., TX with his brother John B. Calhoun. William was an Attorney and a lawman (as family stories go) in Bonham, Fannin Co., TX from about 1884 plus to almost 1910 Then on to Sunny Southern California. Just not too sure as our family was great about family stories that just kept getting better and more interesting. I would love to correspond with any descendants of this family and share what we have collected. I am descended from the above John B. Calhoun, b. 4-23-1847, brother of Alexander William Calhoun. Their mother Eliza Goodman Calhoun d. about 1907 and was buried at Willow Wild Cemetery near Bonham, Fannin Co., TX. Thanks, Zabette Elam >

    1. [CALHOUN] Early Colquhouns
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. I've been wading through my bulging PML matches folder, trying to clean it out during our summer slow time. I no longer search for the Colquhoun variants, because I saw no interest in the items I published in the past. And it is a LOT of work! However, I'm not willing to just throw the ones I have away! There's a very interesting discussion of the early (1300s-1500s) Colquhoun family on ClanBoyd-L, which took place back in February. I'm not going to write Mike Boyd for permission to forward, but if you are interested, you can easily go to the Isearch Archive, type in ClanBoyd-L, and then search for Colquhoun. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Have fun, Valorie

    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Posted on: Calhoun Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/cal/Calhoun?read=109 Surname: Calhoun ------------------------- It shouldn't be difficult to find some of the Vice President's *descendants* -- look on World Connect, here at Rootsweb. In fact, you will find some discussion and sources by looking in our own list archives (link below). Some of the VPs ancestry may be mentioned, too! :) One caution: be sure that you begin with the beginning. Write down the facts about you, and your parents, and start asking all your relatives about themselves, their parents, and grandparents. Start collecting proof of some of these stories -- birth certificates, marriage records, death certificates, obituaries, deeds and wills. Look in the 1920 US Census, and find your people there, and work back. You'll have fun in the search, whether you link up to the former Vice President, or not! 1. [CALHOUN] Research on Ancestry's dime....
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. OK, I just beat the deadline, and signed up for my free time at Ancestry. I haven't had time to do any research there, but I hope some of you will, and will share some of what you find with the list. Of course, there are other resources out there, too, and I hope that anything interesting that you find on the Web, or over at GenForum, or FamilySearch, you will also share with the group. And of course, this is the season for family reunions, and graveyard trips, and even some library and courthouse research. Share what you find, and find some cousins! Valorie PS: BTW, I'm leaving on a one day trip around the wine country in Eastern Washington. I'll have my laptop with me, but don't know how much online time I will have. Have fun while I'm gone!

Read all about it at http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/merge.html You'll still find RootsWeb at http://www.rootsweb.com/ Everything you're used to using will still be here: the 19,000 mailing lists, the hundreds of millions of names in free genealogy databases, the interactive learning guides, the weekly ROOTSWEB REVIEW and MISSING LINKS, the numerous tools for tracing your family history, the tens of thousands of message boards, the thousands of independently authored Web sites. RootsWeb will still support worthy genealogy projects and societies, such as the USGenWeb Project http://www.usgenweb.org, the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild http://istg.rootsweb.com/ the FreeBMD Project http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/, and other groups that provide free genealogical resources. And don't worry, you won't be charged to access RootsWeb. No one will put your data on CD without your permission. Our Privacy Policy http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/pledge.html and our Acceptable Use Policy http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html are unchanged. Other promises made over the years will continue to be honored. You'll still deal with the same RootsWeb volunteers and employees. In fact, most users won't notice any changes, except exciting new tools, more content, and better genealogical resources. --- So far, the transition seems smooth enough. Of course, there are unanswered questions, and hopes and fears for the future of our beloved Rootsweb. My long association with the fine people who established and run Rootsweb leave me optimistic and hopeful. You are welcome to write to me, or the HelpDesk for more information http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi Let's keep discussion of this OFF the list, please. I'm seeing more subs and unsubs than usual, as people leave for vacations and research trips. Remember to wear your sunscreen, take lots of pictures, and have fun! 2. Suzanne Coats
    3. Dear List, At an antique auction a few years back we acquired a medical textbook used by John Benjamin Calhoun in 1854-55. It was a textbook teaching about different roots and herbs and medicines and how to use them. He listed his home as Natchez, Mississippi. On one page of this book, he has written "Dr. John Benjamin Calhoun" I would like to see this book in the hands of his decendants. If anyone knows anything about this person, please get in touch with me at <coats@localink4.com> Suzanne Shuttleworth Coats Forest, Ms.

    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi Everyone! I hope you had a good Flag Day, yesterday. Sorry I sent this tonight, instead of this morning! In honor of this occasion, here are a couple of questions for you: Have you found an ancestor who fought in the American Revolution? How many countries' flags hang in your tree? Do you have a special flag in your family's possession? What is the story behind it? Wishing you success in your research, Valorie PS: My answers: 1) Maybe. 2) The flags of the USA, Canada, Scotland, Sweden, and Ostfriesland, in northern Germany. There may be more, but I haven't proven it. 3) Yes, we have a silk flag of the Rising Sun from Japan, that my father brought back from the Second World War. His last posting, as an Army medic, was in Sapporo, on Hokkaido, in Japan.
