    3. Wilsie, My ggggrandfather was Samuel Calhoun b 1788 Abbyville,NC d TX 1871 He was a slave owner in Jones Co Ga. He brought 100 of his slaves with him when he moved to an area around Madisonville Texas in 1845 along with his Son-in-law James A. Cabiness. I know that many slaves took the name of their owners. I do not have a lot of information on Samuel before he came to Texas. He married an Elizabeth Finney, she died in 1836 and is buried in GA. I have not researched his Georgia roots. I do not know if this infomation gives you any leads, but I thought it could be related. 3. I just sent a post about our new message boards -- I copied part of the message from another list, and didn't notice until after I SENT the post, that the "reply to" is set to MOMercer-L, a Missouri county list. Please don't just click reply and then send. If you want to respond, make sure OUR list name is up there in the Address box. Sorry about that! Valorie

    1. [CALHOUN] Our New Boards
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi, everybody, it's been an exciting, exhausting couple of weeks. But our new board is up, working fine, and if you haven't visited yet, come take a peek. The one little oddity that I'm waiting for them to fix, is that "gatewayed" messages sent to the list when someone posts on the board, aren't well marked. Remember that many people will post to our board, that would never join the list. So if you just answer a board post *on the list* instead of clicking over to the board to answer, they MAY never see your answer. As you know, I manage all these Cowan/Colquhoun surname variants as a group to complement the Cowan and Colquhoun lists. So here are all the relevant boards. Be sure to put your favorites in My Favorites, so you can click right through! http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.cowan http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.cowen http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.cowin http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.colquhoun http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.cahoon http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.calhoon http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.calhoun What's New With The Rootsweb Message Boards Message from the Ancestry Home Office by Jake Gehring, Executive Producer Wow, what a week it has been. The messages have really been flying. In an effort to improve communication from Ancestry to you (and vice versa), I will be sending out a message every so often which addresses current issues on the Ancestry site. The Ancestry staff has received lots of questions since the merger of Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com last summer, and I think there's a general need for our users to have regular information on Ancestry's efforts to provide valuable services to the genealogical community. I also want to make a few comments about our new message boards system which was launched last week. We're grateful for the excellent feedback many of you have provided. The feedback has been generally positive when addressing the value of the combined datasets and the increased search functionality. However, I also recognize that any significant change requires some getting used to and may create some temporary inconvenience and frustration. I would like to address some of the concerns we've heard from you, the users. ... There is some confusion about Ancestry's position regarding the ownership of messages posted on the boards. Let me clarify by excerpting from the Acceptable Use Policy, which reads, "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at Ancestry, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it. As far as the message boards or any other Ancestry features are concerned, if you're not happy, we're not happy. Please continue to give us your comments and concerns at the Suggestions Message Board http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.rw.admin.badmin or at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi

    2. I too, am looking for a lost relative in Dahlonega. My relative is Adam Calhoun. We think he had a brother named Noah, and father named Samuel. They were from SC and supposed to be related to JC Calhoun. Adam and his family moved to Whitfield Co., GA about 1848. Adam's family is documented, but we are missing his family in Dahlonega. Any help would be appreciated.
