Would you have any information on Adam Calhoun born 1807 in GA died aft. 1880 Whitfield Co.,GA married on Sept.15,1837 in Lumpkin Co., GA to Elizabeth Boyd. This is my gg grandfather and has been a big brick wall. He is on the 1840 Lumpkin Co, GA census living near Samuel and Noah Calhoun. I don't know if there is a connect between Adam, Samuel and Noah. It is thought Samuel may be the father and Noah a brother. Any help is greatly appreciated. Janette Nelson

I'm not sure that we're related but I'm really interested in looking at your data and in learning about the derivation of the name Colquhoun! I'll compare your information with what I have and let you know if there are any coincidences. I'm crossing my fingers, since I have been unable to make the connection between my Scots-Irish ancestors and their Scottish antecedents. Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2001 14:02:47 -0600 From: SAWESTGTWY@gateway.net To: CALHOUN-L@rootsweb.com Attention Researchers with Robeson Co NC Connections! July 10th, 2001: The Robeson County Heritage Book Project is now officially off and going. Chairperson, Treasurer and Committees where elected and additional Criteria was established for the Heritage Book. Information concerning criteria, examples of stories, and how to prepare your stories, along with restrictions and other details will be in the brochure. So far we have received over 450 names and smailing addresses of folks who interested in the Robeson County Heritage Book Project. These names have come to us via the internet, and especially by announcements such as this on the various Rootswebs Mailing List [ROOTSWEBS, Thank you so much!!!]. The Robeson County Heritage Book is being written by hundreds of people who submit stories on their Robeson County connected ancestors. If your ancestors were from Robeson Co NC, then we encourage you to submit stories on your Robeson Co NC ancestors. If you do not put your family's story in the book then no one else probably will, and the end result is that they will be left out of the publication. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to write a story. You can make your stories just as simple, or just as elaborate, as you wish. You can even take an obituary, add birth, death and marriage dates, names of parents, list all children, and any interesting facts and/or stories about your subject that you would like to relay to other readers, and especially to your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc⦠This book will be a treasure to all, who are interested in Robeson County, her families. If you are interested in this project and would like to be placed on the mailing list to receive a brochure [brochures should be in from the publisher by late July], then send us your name and smailing address to the e-mail address listed below so we may send you a Robeson County Heritage Book Brochure. Please do not send any stories, etc⦠until after you Have received your brochure. SAWESTGTWY@gateway.net Thanks, Sam West Lumberton, [Robeson County] North Carolina
No, but they could be related to our Adam's brother, Noah. We can't find anything on him. Possibly he was born around 1800-1815. Our Adam Calhoun owned property next to Samuel Calhoun, and Noah Calhoun. Adam moved to Whitfield County, GA about 1848-49. They were all in the Lumpkin 1840 census. Adam is in the Whitfield County 1850 census. We have always been told that we were from SC, and related to John C Calhoun of SC. Our family were supposedly working for him in a mine in Lumpkin County.
Hi Robert, I have not been able to make any connections with other Calhouns since posting my previous message. My uncle-in-law's oldest known Calhoun ancestor is James Allen Calhoun. He was born in October 1859 in Lumpkin Co., GA. His parents may be John Calhoun (b ~1840 in GA) and Jane Sophrenia Grizzle (b~1840 in GA). They were married 20 Dec 1857 in Lumpkin Co., GA. I have no other clues to go on. Does any of this match up with your line?

Delores, I think you may be related to us! Email my mom at bcsunshine2@home.com or call her at 828-687-9966. She has all of our family records dating back to the 16th century and would know if you were one of the Haywwod county calhouns. She is seriously into this and would love to talk to you (or any other Calhoun). If she can figure out how to do it I'll have her post the family tree.Anyway, let us know. Laura
My husband's grandfather was Johnnie Calhoun Hollister, the middle name after his mother, Alice Calhoun. Alice married Edward Augustus Hollister around 1868. E.A. Hollister was from Louisiana so they may have been married there, but we believe they lived in East Texas, perhaps the Houston area. I have no further information on Alice Calhoun and would appreciate if anyone could help me find out more--thanks!!
