John Henry Davis, 69, a long-time resident of Janesville, died at the Westwood Hospital last Saturday. Davis, intimatley known as "Matt" was a native of Van Buren County, Iowa. While a young man he moved to Tom Greene county, Texas, where he married. The Davis' later came to California and settled in Janesville. This was in December 1894. He is survived by his wife, Matilda Davis of Janesville and five children, Mrs. Opal Garrett of Janesville, Mrs. Blanche Decious of San Jose, Mrs. Irene Stiglitz of Janesville, Mrs. Winnie Hersey of Susanville and a son, B.L. Davis of Janesville. Davis also leaves 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Janesville Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. O.A.Wildman. The remains were interred in the janesville Cemetery. Mrs. F.A.Decious of San Jose, Mr. and Mrs. William Ripley of San Francisco and Mrs. Clyde Garrett of Fallon, Nevada arrived in Susanville to attend the funeral services. Mrs. Garrett of Fallon remained here for a few days to visit with relatives.
