My new website focusing on Lassen County history is now up and running at http://www.tipurdy.org/ There are a wide variety of records available such as obituary indexes spanning from 1864-1974, archive files, etc. In addition, beginning on March 1, there will be daily postings concerning Lassen County history, and its adjoining counties of Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra and Washoe Counties.     3. We would like to announce the forming of a new organization the Cumberland Gap Tennessee Genealogy and History Group, A.K.A (CGTGHG) which propose to record and preserve. The goal of the group is to promote Genealogy with the recording of Pioneerâs and their descendantâs while also preserving and recording Cumberland Gapâs history. The CGTGHG hopeâs the Nation will get behind the group by submitting pioneerâs names, stories, pictures and Genealogies to be preserved for future generations to come. The CGTGHG will be having a newsletter 4 times a year and will have memberships available on different levels more on that to come. As a child, Kingsbury knew Peter Lassen, Roop, Old Winnemucca and Young Wimmemucca, Piute Indian chiefs of western Nevada. He was a native of Plumas County and one of the first white children in that area. His late brother, Frank Kingsbury, was the first white child born in that territory. His father was a cattle raiser in Honey Lake Valley for many years. For many years before moving to Sacramento, he was employed by the United States land office at Susanville. Bringham passed away this morning after a lingering illness at the home of his daughter Mrs. T.A. Craine, 919 Foss St. Mr. Bringham was born in Nebraska City, Neb., in 1857 and came to Plumas county with his parents at the age of 3. They were among the first settlers in Sierra Valley. He was married to Harriet Trimble in 1877. She passed away in 1883. He owned the hotel in Beckwourth for a number of years. He has been a resident of Susanville for 21 years, operating a service station on Richmond road for 8 years. He is the father of Mrs. Mabel Craine, Susanville; Grace Bringham, deceased; Robert A. Bringham, Los Angeles; Jesse G. Bringham, Vallejo, Calif. Funeral arrangements pending, waiting to hear from relatives. Funeral services will be conducted in the Morrill Chapel Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be made in the family plot in the Beckwourth Cemetery at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. A. Goodfellow Funeral Services This Afternoon Hovering between life and death for several days, William Arthur Goodfellow passed away Wednesday night at his home on Pine Street. He was born in Plumas County 61 years ago, had lived in Lassen County 55 years, and upon reaching manhood engaged in ranching and kindred activities, at various times being located in Willow Creek Valley, Johnstonville and Westwood until retirement about 10 years ago. More than 30 years ago while operating a dairy on the Arnold estate near Susanville he was first to introduce sanitary milk bottle in Susanville, displacing the pans, crocks, or pails into which the milkman poured from his can by dipper. Later for a period of five years, Mr. Goodfellow was engaged in the butcher business in Westwood. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Alta Goodfellow, and eight sons and daughters; Thomas A. Goodfellow and Mrs. Gladys Scott of Burney; Wm. Arthur Jr. of Susanville; Charles, David and Lola May Goodfellow of Burney; Mrs. Eleanor Bangle of Susanville, Mrs. Dorothy Dunkle of Central Valley and Mrs. Francis Tryon of Tacoma, Wash. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Morrill and Hornshuh chapel at 2 o'clock by E. L. Spaulding, Baptist Minister, and Mrs. C.W. Morrill assisted with appropriate musical numbers. Pallbearers were John Ruff, Henry Rush, John Conlin, Sam Sutton, Oscar Woods, and Bert Carmen. Interment was in the Susanville Cemetery. Ferris Suddenly Passes Orvis S. Ferris passed away suddenly at his home three miles south of Doyle Saturday evening. He complained in the evening of not feeling well, so retired early and passed away about 30 minutes after retiring. He was born in Plumas County 69 years ago and came to Lassen County when he was seven years old. He has resided here ever since with his the exception of about 17 years engaged in mining in the north. Since his return to Lassen County 30 years ago he has resided in the Doyle section and engaged in cattle raising, ranching and dairying. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Emma Ferris, and the following children: Mrs. Mary Oatman, Standish; Mrs. Nellie Feour, Las Vegas, Nev.; Edwin Ferris, Pyramid, Nevada; Mrs. Luella Plumb, Reno, Nev.; Dan Orvis Jr., and Laura Ferris, Doyle; one brother, George Ferris, Reno, Nev; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Robinson, Doyle, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Doyle Methodist Church by Rev. R.G. Green. Mrs. James McQueen furnished sacred music. Johnston and had with him a daughter, Also called Martha Melissa in 1882. Chester died of a blood poisoning infection after having dental work in 1885. Martha then married Jasper Tipton. She had no children in this marriage. The mother Martha Melissa Tipton (1856-1930) is buried at the McKissick Family Cemetery and her daughter Martha Melissa Johnston Vincent died 10 years prior to her mom (1920) and is buried in the Susanville Pioneer Cemetery. There is an understanding that if you wanted it to be a couple more days as a mini vacation that rate would still apply. You must notify La Quinta Inn on Bonita Rd right off of 805 before you turn east to go to the Golf Course by 4 March for this to apply. You must also mention our society to be given this rate.
